我们的老朋友秦梅女士想和我们分享的两篇英文小短文之《爱与时间》。
Once upon a time, there was an island where all the feelings lived: happiness, sadness, knowledge, and all of the others, including love. One day it was announced to the feelings that the island would sink so all constructed boats and left except for love.
Love was the only one who stayed. Love wanted to hold out until the last possible moment.
When the island had almost sunk, love decided to ask for help.
Richness was passing by love in a grand boat. Love said : “Richness, can you take me with you?’’ Richness answered, “No I can’t. There is a lot of gold and silver in my boat. There is no place here for you.”
Love decided to ask vanity who was also passing by in a beautiful vessel. “Vanity, please help me!” “I can’t help you, love. You are all wet and might damage my boat,” vanity answered. Sadness was close by so love asked: “sadness let me go with you.” “Oh love, I am so sad that I need to be by myself!”
Happiness passed by love, too, but she was so happy that she did not even hear when love called her.
Suddenly, there was a voice, “come on love, I will take you.” It was an elder. So blessed and overjoyed, love even forgot to ask the elder where they were going. When they arrived at dry land, the elder went her own way. Realizing how much was owed the elder, love asked knowledge, another elder, “who helped me?” “It was time,” knowledge answered.
"Time?” asked love. “But why did time help me?”
Knowledge smiled with deep wisdom and answered, “because only time is capable of understanding how valuable love is.”

一个岛上住着财富、虚荣、快乐、爱情等等原始的感情。有一天，岛要沉了，大家都忙着逃跑，可是爱情没有渡水之船，于是它向人求救。
财富划着自己的船过来了
可是它说：“不行，我的船上全是金银珠宝，没有你坐的地方”
虚荣划着自己的船过来了，可是它说：“不行，你都湿透了，会弄脏我的船的”
悲哀划着自己的船过来了，可是它说：“不行，我太悲哀了，得一个静一会，不能带你”
快乐划着自己的船过来了，可是它太开心了，竟然没有听到爱情的呼救，唱着快乐的歌划船远去了。
当爱情就要绝望的时候，突然听到一个老人说：“我带你走吧” 于是爱情上了那位老人的船，可是上岸后，那个老人没有留下姓名就走了。
于是爱情向知识老人打听，知识回答说：“那是时间老人”。
“时间？”爱情问，“它为什么要救我？”
知识老人回答说，“因为，只有时间才能理解爱情有多么伟大”。

从前有座岛，岛上住着一群原始的感觉，有嫉妒、悲伤、谦虚、爱情等等，这一天它们被告之说这座小岛要沉了，于是大家伙开始赶紧收拾东西纷纷坐船逃跑，唯独爱情动作慢了点，等它要走的时候发觉本人这船曾经沉没了。
于是爱情就向伙伴们求救了，当时距离爱情最近的富有第一时间就拒绝了爱情，由于它这个小船上载满了财富，已经载不动爱情了。
于是这个爱情又向虚荣求救，可虚荣嫌弃爱情湿淋淋的，怕它弄脏它这个华丽的小船。紧接着快乐也来了，可是它只顾着本人高兴的地哼着歌，根本就没有留意到爱情的求救。就在爱情心灰意懒的时候，一个老人驾着一条船来了。这位老人笑眯眯地把爱情带上了船，把它送到了一个安全的地方然后再继续本人的旅程。
等老人走了之后，爱情才想起来它甚至都忘了问他的名字了。后来爱情遇上了一位叫聪慧的老人，于是它就向聪慧打听这个救了它的老人。
聪慧就告诉它说，那个老人叫时间，他之所以愿意帮助你，是因为整座岛上，只有时间才能证明你具有的价值。
