2009年2月11日，在北京出差的彭先生为我们送来以下的风景和故事。
这一次，他要和我们分享的主题是The Changing Beijing（直译为“变迁中的北京”）。

原文：
My last message from London was A City Of Tradition. Now I am in Beijing, today's message is A City In Change. Beijing's change is most event from it's landmark architectures like this CCTV headquarter building. It's the first one of this type of the structures in the world. Compare with the traditional BJ structures say 30 years ago, you have to be amazed how fast and how much change this city has made in the past years.

译文：
在上次从伦敦发给大家的图文中，我讲述的是一座恪守传统的城市。现在在北京，我要带给你们的是关于一座变化之城的故事。北京的变迁更多可以从它的地标建筑上得到体现，譬如这座中央电视台的总部大楼。在全球范围内，它也称得上此类建筑中的第一座。如果和30年前北京的那些传统建筑做个对比，你会为几十年来北京所发生的巨变感到惊诧。

原文：
Another obvious change of BJ is it's traffic. When I came to BJ in the early days, I didn't know anybody owned a private car. The streets of BJ were quite empty. Today, most of the people I know in BJ own their private cars. It indicated that the people in this city become much richer than before. However,as a results, there are too many cars on the road as you can see in the picture of the BJ 3rd Ring Road and Chian An Avenue. Of course, this would have also added more polution in the BJ air. The people of BJ are paying a price for all those changes.

译文：
北京另一个显著的变化在于它的交通。早些年前我到北京来时，我所认识的人里面没有一个人拥有私家车，那时北京的街道也是空荡荡的。今天，我所认识人的北京人里绝大部分都拥有自己的私家车。这表明生活在这座城市的人比以前更富裕了。但带来的另一个结果是，就像你们在照片中看到的那样（图为三环路和长安街），公路上的汽车已经太多了。这当然增加了北京空气的受污染程度。北京的人们在为这座城市的变迁付出代价。

原文：
In the process of changes, the change of hardware always comes first. The change of software normally can seldom catch up with the speed of hardware. Because of that, from time to time we can see some serious consequences. The Lantern Festival night a serious fire occurred at the left side of the building which you may have seen it on tv or news paper yesterday. The news said this very serious fire was caused simply because people knowingly not obey the clear firework rule and regulation. This has once more reminded us that even the greatest hardware change can be destroyed instantly by the inadequate software change.

As I told you in Baojing about 2 weeks ago, freedom brings us innovation and that's what it takes to make a change, but discipline brings order and that's what it takes to sustain the value of the changes.

译文：
在这个变迁的过程中，通常是硬件先行，软件其后，但软件变迁的速度总是跟不上硬件。因为这个原因，我们一次又一次地看到恶果发生。你们可能在电视或报纸上已经看到，元宵节晚上央视总部大楼左侧的配楼发生了一场大火。新闻上说，火灾的发生仅仅是因为有人在燃放烟花时故意违反了相关的规章制度。这场事故再次提醒我们，就算硬件方面有了再伟大的变迁，倘若相关的软件跟不上，这些伟大的变迁顷刻之间就能被毁灭。

正如半个月前我在保靖同你们所说，自由为我们带来创新，而创新是变革的源泉；纪律为我们带来秩序，而正是这种井然有序的秩序，在维护着变革所带来的成果。

原文：
This trip gave me a stronger feeling that the negative impacts of the global financial crisis is with us. Many of the better restaurants and hotels as shown in the picture, are terribly empty. We are all hoping that the situation is going to get better say second half of this year.

译文：
此次北京之行，令我更强烈地感受到全球金融危机所带来的危害与我们息息相关。如图所示，北京的很多高档餐厅和酒店已经生意冷清到门可罗雀，我们都希望在下半年情况会有所好转。
