（编按：本文选自嘉里集团郭氏基金会《2020年年报》前言） 择一事，做一生，惠众生 回顾2020 ，中国打胜了兩场至为艰难的战争—扶贫攻坚和对抗新冠病毒。其实，这两场战争的胜利都得来不易，也让我们看到了我们打的都不是歼灭战，而是持久战，需要持久地与人性的贪念、畏难思想进行斗争。 中国打赢了扶贫攻坚战，“两不愁、三保障”得到全面实现，为困扰千百年的绝对贫困问题画上句号，对世界减贫事业的贡献率超过七成，实在值得骄傲。但我们知道发展与机会分配不均衡的问题仍然突出，巩固拓展扶贫攻坚成果的任务依然艰巨。国家下一步的目标，是全面实施与扶贫攻坚成果有效衔接的乡村振兴。因此精准扶贫攻坚战的完美收官，只是完成了“让人民生活更加幸福美满”之持久战中的一个阶段性目标，是实现中国梦道路上的一个重要里程碑。而持久地与人性的贪念、畏难和等靠要思想作斗争，还有待我们将KGKF可持续影响人、改变人的模式复制推广，为乡村振兴战略不断付出我们的心血。 基金会认为机会分配不均的社会问题不可能仅仅通过物质扶持，或只是单向的机会赋予来解决。KGKF一直以来专注做人的工作，我们深信同步提升人的能力和素质，能带来思维上的长远改变，帮助人们有一天为自己甚至为他人创造机会，以解决机会分配不均的严峻社会问题，进而建立一个守规范，有公德的公平和谐社会，为人们带来幸福美满的人生。 经过十四年在全国十四个实践基地和两个卫星基地的辛勤耕耘，我们不断地累积知识和经验，优化影响人、改变人的模式，最终将之推广。我们知道改变人的思维从来没有捷径，要用心、花时间，用一个个以同步提升人的能力与素质的项目为手段来实现。王阳明曾说“破山中贼易，破心中贼难。”进入KGKF的2.0时代，我们的工作不单是“破山中贼”，更重要的是“破心中贼”，要面对更多的困难和艰巨挑战。 十多年来KGKF每年都在中国的农村和城镇实施将近500多个项目，但如果这些项目之间的关联性不强，没有系统性的连接，就很难让我们付出的心血带来对人们思维/行为可持续的影响和改变，这就是为什么改变人的工作是一个长期的系统工程。它让我们更能纵观全局，把每个项目都视为整个系统中的一个单元，彼此能够有系统地衔接，共同在路线图上往最终影响人、改变人的目标推进。 我们明白解决当今发展与机会分配不均的严峻社会问题，不能单凭一己之力。要让这个世界变得更美好，不能靠一个人，而是要靠每一个人。多年来我们一直在努力搭建一个个培养人的平台，在平台上我们有效地整合资源，促进有共同目标的利益相关者之间的互动影响，最终我们都成为推动社会规范公德的带头人，为建立公平和谐社会而努力。
有人说，我们一个人一辈子大概只能解决一个别人从来未想过的问题，或做一件别人未曾成功的事。让我们“择一事，做一生，惠众生”，而选择只是个开始，圆满的完成才是最终的目标。当然圆满完成我们十四年前选择的“惠众生”的目标，并不容易，让我们以郑板桥的七绝《竹石》共勉：咬定青山不放松，立根原在破岩中。 千磨万击还坚劲，任尔东西南北风。

Our lifelong dedication – for the better life of the people Looking back at 2020, China has won the battles against poverty and coronavirus. The hard-won victories showed us that these two battles were both protracted instead of annihilated: the persistent fights against human greed and fear. Poverty was a problem that has plagued the Chinese nation for thousands of years. We feel proud of China's historic achievements in eradicating absolute poverty, with the realisation of the Two Assurances and Three Guarantees (两不愁、三保障), through the years helping to reduce the world's poor population by more than 70 percent of the global total. Now we have come to an important milestone on the journey towards the realisation of the Chinese Dream, reached a phased goal of the protracted war for bringing a brighter and happier life to the people. Following the triumph in this battle, the nation will continue to consolidate the results of poverty eradication, dovetail new measures with rural revitalization (乡村振兴). As the problems of unfair distribution of wealth and opportunities are still significant, we know that it will be another tough battle. Striving for rural revitalisation, we need to multiply and expand the influence of our sustainable people development model, persistently fight against human greed, fear of hardships, and the “handouts-waiting” mentality. We believe that the social problems of uneven distribution of opportunities cannot be solved only through material support, nor just by granting the underprivileged opportunities. KGKF's work has been people-focused. We deeply believe in raising people's capability and quality so that their mindset change will contribute to creating opportunities for themselves, and most importantly also for others. By doing so, we build a rule-abiding, caring, fair, harmonious society and eventually bring a brighter and happier life to the people. After 14 years of unrelenting efforts, we have accumulated knowledge and experiences from our work in 14 poverty eradication bases and 2 satellite bases, which helped us to continuously refine our people development model, and eventually expand its influence across the nation. We understand that changing people's mindsets is no easy task. The key is to put in our hearts and time to enhance their quality and capability. As Wang Yangming (王阳明) said, “While defeating the bandits in the mountains is simple, conquering the inner demons is difficult. (破山中贼易，破心中贼难)” Entering the era of KGKF 2.0, we are facing more hardships and challenges. It is more important that we fight against our own weaknesses with perseverance, in order to march forward on this arduous journey. For more than 10 years, KGKF has carried out around 500 projects in China's rural and urban areas annually, exerting a sustainable influence on people's mentality and behaviours in terms of rule-abidance and social morality. This was the result of adopting the systematic problem-solving approach - the approach which allowed us to have an overall view of the social problems, and to design interrelated projects for bringing positive changes to the people, moving towards the ultimate goal on the road map. We fully understand that, if we want to address serious social problems arising from the unfair distribution of opportunities, and to make the world a better place, we cannot do it alone. We have been continuously building people development platforms, where we effectively integrated resources for promoting the interaction and mutual influence among the like-minded stakeholders, and eventually developing them into the change drivers for building an orderly and harmonious society. Somebody once said, during each person's lifetime, one can probably solve only one problem that no one else has ever thought of, or do one thing that no one else has ever succeeded in. Let us “make the right choice, dedicate our life to it, and benefit others in the process”. Let's encourage each other in this journey with a poem by an ancient Chinese poet Zheng Banqiao (郑板桥) from the Qing Dynasty: Bamboo in the Rock 《竹石》Upright stands the bamboo amid green mountains steep, Its toothlike root in broken rock is planted deep. It’s strong and firm though struck and beaten without rest, Careless of the wind from north or south, east or west. Although it is not easy to successfully reach the ultimate goal of “bringing a brighter and happier life to the people” that we decided fourteen years ago, we are inspired to persevere in our journey.
