New York, New York!

I don't know what would be the definition of "city" in dictionary. However, I am reasonably sure that NY would be able to meet all of them. Manhattan, the center piece of the New York city may even be able to satisfy the requirements of a city perfectly. It has provided all the convenience and necessary support to make NY the most important financial and culture center of the world today. Have not visited NY for a few years, I am here this time is to attend a meeting in the financial district of Manhattan.

New York is so compact, every part of the Manhattan can be reached very easily. I think NY also has one of the most extensive subway network among all the major cities in the world. The NY's subway and bus system can easily get you to almost anywhere in the city you want to go. As a results, the easy, convenient connectivity of people helps to stimulate people's thinking and innovation to create more wealth with less resource.

Today, NY's subway is very clean and quite safe and comfortable to ride.

New Yorkers like to boast that anything you need or like you can find in New York. Something excited is happening in NY every minute. You will therefore, never be bored in NY. New York claims that it's a city which never sleeps.

New York is well know to provide people with exciting night life. Time Square today becomes safer and cleaner and a place people can really enjoy the exciting moments of life.

Another reason making NY such an exciting and interesting place, comes from its diversity. If US is a melting pot of people, NY got to be the exact model of this melting pod. You can see people coming from all over the world here, including this street artist from China.

In NY you can hear all different languages, eat all kind of different good food, and watch each other practicing their own customs with respect.

In addition to Time Square, for many people window shopping on the Fifth Avenue can be something quite enjoyable. You don't have to buy it and own it, the beautiful design and innovative ideas make fifth avenue an attractive place to be especially during the Christmas season.

Another attraction along the 5th Avenue is the Rockefeller Center at the 50th street. Many young people today may not know who's Rockefeller, but they must have heard about the Rockefeller Foundation. For about hundred years, the various efforts of the Foundation has contributed greatly in making this world a better place to live for all. Doesn't matter it's winter or summer, Rockefeller center in NY has always attracted many visitors from all over the world..

Another thing worth mentioning here is the New York City' parks. It's well designed and located across the city. This is the nice and quiet riverside park along the Hudson River. The building you can see crossed the river is located in the State of New Jersey.

Of course, the most famous park of all in NY got to be the Central Park. You have to give the city planners many many years ago a lot of respect, for their great far sight to preserve such a huge and prime piece of land in the middle of Manhattan, not for commercial purpose but simply for the crowded NY citizens to have a comfortable space to breath.

You can either take a leisure morning walk,

or an afternoon horse carriage ride in the park, they should be equally enjoyable.

As you all know that NY is also one of the most important culture centers in the world. People can never be tired of New York's museums, broadway shows and music halls, including this one with very long history, the Carnegie Hall located just south of the Central Park..

Although New York has many famous Universities, I have a special emotional attachment for this one alone. I therefore took a special short visit to the school located at 116th street of Manhattan to refresh some of my good memories during my trip to NY this time.

Columbia University has a history of about 250 years.

Through the years, it has helped to develop many of the world's great thinkers.

I had the honor of teaching here in the late 70s which has brought me some fond good memories.

This is the Engineering building of the Columbia University where I taught many years ago. I still remember I taught a graduate school course in the evening. Most of my students were working in the engineering firms in the city and older than I was at that time. I was a relatively young professor those days. Even today I can still remember some of my students' faces and how they liked to ask me questions.

Walking on the evening street of New York under the chilling winter wind tonight, there was a warmth in my heart. After being away from this city for so many years, I finally get to understand that why once people come to NY, they would never want to leave. To many people, the uniqueness of New York, you would never be able to find in any other city around the world.

如果你爱一个人,请把他送到纽约,因为那里是天堂;
