原文：2008年6月，汶川大地震后的一个月，我第一次造访绵竹灾区，灾区的情况，满目疮痍惨不忍睹，至今记忆犹新。绵竹地处青藏高原与成都平原的交界处，是这次地震的重灾区。沿山交通中断，我们勉强上山找到了九龍鎮红岩村，整个村庄几乎被地震滑坡的山石埋没。村民流离失所无家可归。
译文：In 2008 June, a month after the Sichuan Wenchuan earthquake, I visited the affected areas in Mianzhu for the first time. I can still vividly recall the memories of shattered houses and ruins all over the place. Mianzhu is located at the junction of the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau and the Chengdu Plain, and was hit hardest by the earthquake. Traffic was completely disrupted in the mountain. It took us lots of efforts to climb up to Jiulong Town Hongyan Village, where the whole village was almost buried under rocks in landslide.Many villagers became homeless.






原文：还記得2008年6月我们坐在九龙鎮新农村的临时搭建的办公室和村委会几位领导开会的情景，村主任谈到中国农民真是命苦，他们一辈子就为了两个'子'--孩子和房子--而奋斗，到头来一场汶川大地震把两个'子'都带走了。他哭了，我们也跟着他都留了泪。
译文：I still remember the moments when we sat down in a makeshift village office and had a meeting with the village leaders of Jiulong Town Xinlong Village in June 2008. The village leader felt sorry about Chinese farmers’ poor luck, as the earthquake took away the two most important “things”that they spend their whole lives striving for – the children and the houses.He cried, and we could not help shedding tears too.




原文：八年后再回九龙鎮，见到的是沧海桑田的改变。地震带来的山泥倾泻已经不见踪影,地震后远处山上的滑坡已经长出了青草。
译文：Returning to Jiulong after eight years, we see tremendous changes.Landslides caused by the earthquake were cleared up, and grass have grown on the slopes again.




原文：山坡上村民也开始种植了一些农作物，像猕猴桃，核桃等等。
译文：Villagers living on the hills have also begun to plant some crops like kiwi fruit, walnuts and so on.



原文：八年前我们帮助修建的防震农房，今天看起来依然情况良好。
译文：The anti-earthquake houses that we helped built eight years ago still stand strong today.






原文：这次和村委会的重聚,让我再次想起了当年他们刚刚搬进新屋時我对他们说的一些话。看到他们自己新家里清洁干净，但是房子外面却垃圾满地，我们只花了一年半的时间来為他們完成防震的农房重建，但是我们很可能要用一代人的工夫来做村民素貭的整体改造。这几年我们在綿竹，很高兴地看到不光是村容村貌的改变，更重要的是村民的精神面貌有了很大的变化。我们看得到在基金会的帮助下清洁卫生，和村民素质都有了很大的提升。他們這幾年的改變，对努力創建一個美好的公平和諧社會，給我們帶來了信心和希望。
译文：Meeting with the village committee again brought back memories of our conversation when they first moved into the new houses. Their new houses were very clean inside, which contrasted starkly with the streets outside that were full of litters. It took us only one and a half year to rebuild the anti-earthquake houses, but it would likely take a generation of time to transform the quality of villagers. In these past few years in Mianzhu, I am glad to see that villagers’ mindsets have changed a lot, alongside with the improving village environment. With the help of the Foundation, the hygiene and quality of villagers both greatly improved. Their changes over the years have given us stronger confidence and hope to achieve a fair and harmonious society.





原文：灾后八年再訪绵竹，很高兴看到綿竹的朋友们已经由震後的废墟里重新再站起来了。今天他们已经有能力为自己创造机会，也开始为别人创造机会。綿竹再一次回复到八年前的山清水秀。
译文：Revisiting the disaster-stricken Mianzhu in eight years, I’m glad that our friends there have stood up again by the ruins after the earthquake. Today, they already have the ability to create opportunities for themselves, and have started to create opportunities for others too. Mianzhu is as beautiful as it was eight years ago.





原文：我想我们和我们綿竹的朋友们都应该每天带着一颗感恩的心过日子。我们不能光享福，我们也应该为自己也为别人造更多的福！
译文：I think that we and our friends in Mianzhu should all live with a grateful heart each day. We should enjoy life while creating more blessings for ourselves and others!

08年和16年的照片对比很鲜明，可以看出村民的居住环境发生了很好的变化。而且从照片看，周围很干净，垃圾没有乱扔，马路上没有垃圾，小溪的水很清澈。这是很难得的。医疗和休闲方式也变了。物质生活和精神生活一起提升。

希望村民们把这些改变坚持下去，并代代传下去，这么美丽的地方，美好淳朴的村民。生活的富裕永远没有思想的富裕重要，希望他们幸福
