In 2011, there were more people lived in the urban than the rural area of China for the first time. Through the years we have witnessed China's rapid but difficult urbanization process. Without the proper education, and professional skill training, it has been very difficult for the migrant workers to make a decent living in the city and eventually hope to integrate into the urban society. For those migrant workers, especially women, they all have a touching story to tell on how they struggle to survive in Beijing, the capital of China.

2011年，中国的城市居住人口首次超过了农村居住人口。这些年来，我们见证了中国迅速而艰难的城市化进程。因为没有受过良好的教育，也没有接受过专业技能的培训，外来工们很难在城市里过上体面、尊严的生活，最终来说，也很难融入这个城市社会中。这些进城的外来务工人员，尤其是其中的妇女们，他们每个人身上都有着一个动人的故事，有关他们是如何在北京——中国的首都——在这个城市艰难而努力生存下来的故事。

To be able to work in the city, many of the migrant workers have to leave their children at home.  The children growing up without the care and love of their parents has created a serious social problem of 留守兒童 in the rural China today！

译文：
为了能够在城市里打工，很多外来务工人员不得不把他们的孩子留在农村老家。这就是我们所说的“留守儿童”。“留守儿童”是在缺少父母关爱的环境里成长起来的。这种现象现在已经成为中国农村地区一个很严重的社会问题！

原文：
They managed to rent a small space in the remote area of the city for them to rest at night.  After the deduction of the long distance daily commuting expanses and the rent from their low wage of the labor intensive work, there would not be much left for their daily life in the city and taking care of their children and parents in the village.

译文：
进城后，外来工们设法在郊区租了房子，他们居住的空间非常狭小。在扣除了日常必须的交通费用和每个月的房租后，他们靠出卖体力挣来的原本就很微薄的工资已经所剩无几，这点钱要用作他们在城市生活的日常开销，以及照料留在农村的孩子和老人。

They are the working poor of the city. Just like the farmers of the rural area, they are not lazy waiting to be fed, they work hard from sunrise to sunset 日出而作，日入而息, but still extremely difficult to make their ends meet.

译文：
他们是城市里的“在岗穷人”。他们并不是坐在那里等待救助的懒汉。和千百年来在乡下务农的中国农民们一样，他们在城市里也是日出而作，日入而息，但是仍然入不敷出。

原文：
With that in mind, their children would not have much opportunities either. The property therefore passes from one generation to another generation and becomes the cross-generation poverty. When the younger generation lost their hope and give up, it becomes  a very critical social problem for any society.

译文：
因为这些，他们的孩子同样也没有什么机会。贫穷就这样从父辈那里传给了下一代，“跨代贫穷”随之产生。当年轻的一代因为失去希望而放弃自己时，对于任何社会来说，这都将成为一个非常严峻的社会问题。

Here at the outskirts of Beijing lives a community of the "working poor" , and without any help, their children would become the "cross-generation poverty".

译文：
这是北京的某郊区，在这里住着的都是我前面所说的“在岗穷人”。如果没有得到外界的帮助，他们的孩子就会变成“跨代贫穷”的一代人。

I think what people can help them so they can get out of this vicious cycle would be to enhance their capabilities and their confidence so they will be able to create opportunity for themselves and help each other to live a better life.

为了让他们摆脱这种恶性循环，我想人们可以帮助他们的是增强他们的能力和信心，这样他们将能够为自己创造机会，并且去互相帮助，从而过上更好的生活。

A small business of collecting the donated second hand clothing, cleaning and organizing them then sell it by a group of housewives came to BJ from the rural villages may not be able to make big money. However, it is a big step for those housewives to gain their confidence and hope that one day they can fully integrate into this city community.

译文：
这些衣服都是别人捐赠的旧衣服。这些家庭妇女们把它们收集起来，洗干净，然后整理归类，放在店里出售。这样的小生意可能挣不了多少钱。但是，对于这些从外地来到北京的外来工家属来说，这大大增强了他们在北京立足的信心与希望。通过这些方式，终有一天，他们将能够完全融入这个城市。

To cut off the vicious cycle of the cross generational poverty, we need also to help their children to receive the proper education and development, they can therefore to be a contributor of this city community in the future.

译文：
为了切断跨代贫穷的恶性循环，我们也需要帮助他们的孩子们，让他们接受相应的教育和培养，这样这些孩子将来会成为为社会出力的一员，从而得以在城市里立足。

With the government and many people's help and support, we believe that one day those migrant workers from the deep rural China will be able to fulfill their "China Dream", to fully integrate into the urban communities to enjoy a happy life and be able to care and love for others and make contributions to the society!

译文：
在政府以及很多爱心人士的帮助和支持下，我们相信有一天，这些从贫穷农村走出来的外来务工人员将可以实现他们的“中国梦”，他们将会完全地融入城市，过上幸福的生活，他们会去关爱他人，为社会做出更多的贡献！

现在网上有个新词叫做“穷二代”，贫穷的世袭是可怕的。

看得到，他们其实很努力的，只是真的少了点机会

生在农村，长在农村，看到太多这样的留守的老人和孩子，为了孩子更好的环境，我们都得努力。

  现在我回老家，村里基本上都是老人和小孩，小孩子长到14/5岁后就外出打工，20岁不到就已经结婚，生完小孩后把孩子留给父母养，又出去打工。村里的小学只有2年纪，3年纪以后要到另外一个村去上学。老师就两个，他们自己大概就初中、高中文凭，只上语文和数学，农忙的时候还放假。这和城里的小孩是在是差太多。
  这个社会，需要我们共同努力的东西还有很多很多！！

给他们的平台太少了，而自己的观念任然没有人去引导他们打开，所以，真的很难走出来。这是社会公平方面需要下功夫的地方。

cross-generation poverty  这是一个很恐怖的词  而实际  这样的事实一直在我们身边

留守儿童是一个大问题。我一直认为童年的经历对人的影响最大。在人生观、价值观都没有树立起来的时候，大人就是孩子的榜样，但是父母的离去，祖父母的老迈，让他们找不到榜样。

以前对留守儿童，我充满了感慨，对他们的父母也表示不理解，但是成为母亲后，特别我的孩子也成为了留守儿童大军的一员，我的心情的复杂的，矛盾的，我非常理解这些父母的苦心、无奈，作为父母，都希望子女在身边，可是为了孩子更好的未来，他们把孩子留在了家里，他们不能预计留在家里带给孩子们的负面影响到底有多大……
