2009年3月2日至3月5日，彭先生前往陕西省淳化县等地，着手创建香港嘉里集团郭氏基金会在中国大陆的第六个脱贫基地。

以下是他想和我们分享的故事和风景。

原文：

I came to Shaanxi to start our 6th base for the development of our "out of poverty" model in China as I explained to you previously in Baojin. This is one of the origin where the Chinese Nation all started thouaands of years ago. This is also a very poor area of the nation today.

译文：
为了创建我们的第六个脱贫基地，我来到陕西（在保靖聚会时我向你们介绍过此事）。这里是中华民族的发源地之一，数千年前，我们的祖先就开始在这里繁衍生息。但时至今日，它仍然是这个国家最贫穷的地区之一。

原文：You can still see many people living in the dangerous caves.

译文：你们可以看到，仍然有很多人住在危险的地窑里。

原文：
Some people live in the underground caves. It's quite dangerous and difficult especially in the raining season. Our plan is to eventually move them out to a safe place.

译文：
有些人住在地窑里。实际上这很危险，生产生活方面也存在诸多困难，雨季尤其如此。我们的计划是最终让这些人离开地窑，搬到安全的地方去住。

These beautiful countryside scenery reminded me of the village houses of the southern France vineyards. They are so simple,beautiful, and maintain such a perfect harmony with their surrounding environment. Of course, Shaanxi is much poorer than France,and that's why we are here. Hope with our help, those countryside of Northern China can one day get out of poverty while maintain it's rich ancient heritage and natural beauty which our ancesters has left for us.

译文：
这些美丽的村庄风景，让我想起了法国南部的葡萄园，那里也有着像这样的小屋，如此朴实和美丽，并与周遭的环境构成如此完美的和谐。当然，陕西比法国要贫穷得多，而这正是我们来到这里的原因。希望在我们的帮助下，这些华北的村庄有一天也可以走出贫穷，同时也保留住那些丰富的文化遗产和美丽的自然环境，这些都是祖先留给我们的（宝贵财富）。
