2012年11月7日，彭定中先生前往福建省闽北山区视察嘉里集团郭氏基金会在当地的脱贫基地，以下是他想和我们分享的风景和故事。

原文：
Just completed my third visit to the northern mountain region of the Fujian province. The green mountain and the clear water 青山綠水 are as beautiful as ever.

译文：
刚刚从闽北山区回来，这是我第三次踏足这片美丽的土地了。这里的青山绿水，永远都那么令人心旷神怡。

原文：
屏南 is another poorest county of China 國家級貧困県 which we selected as one of our Base for poverty alleviation about two years ago. It is connected to the 武夷山脈，near 江西 and 浙江 provinces. Because of its very remote location, just like many of our other bases in the mountain region, it has been isolated and very lagged behind in development. Walking along the old street, you can see people are living a difficult but simple daily life.

译文：
屏南县是一个国家级贫困县。大概2年前，我们在这里开创了一个脱贫基地。屏南与武夷山脈相连，毗邻江西和浙江。因为地处偏远，和我们在其他贫困山区建立的很多基地一样，这里长期以来与世隔绝，非常落后。走在这条老街上，你可以看到，这里的人们一直在过着虽然艰苦，但是却简单而安宁的生活。

With the thought of trying to help the villagers to continue to live a simple but more comfortable and enjoyable life, we began to take a holistic approach to help the villagers in the areas of health, education, enterprise and environment to enhance their lives.

In the past two years, we have made some progress in that regard. We have been trying to help the villagers to be able to drink safe and clean water. We have also trying to improve the living environment by thoroughly cleaning the badly polluted pond below.

译文：
为了帮助这里的人们过上更舒适、更快乐的生活，我们开始从卫生、教育、产业和环境四个方面着手，全方位地去改善他们的生活。

在过去的两年里，我们在这些方面取得了一些进展。我们致力于让村民们喝上干净、卫生的饮用水。此外，我们通过彻底清洁和整治这个受到严重污染的池塘来改善人们的生活环境。

原文：
We have helped the villagers to build and moved in their nice new houses. Through the process of the implementation of this housing project, I think the villagers have learned that they have to first help themselves then they will get the needed help from others, 自助，人助，天助，in that order.

译文：
我们帮助村民们建起并搬进了舒适的新房子。在这个新居项目的实施过程中，我想村民们懂得了“自助、人助、天助”的道理，就是说，要想得到别人的帮助，村民们必须先学会自己帮助自己。

原文：
Through the enhancement of the quality of the school education, looks like the children are becoming more innovative and happier in school.

译文：
通过改进教学质量，看来孩子们正在变得越来越活泼，越来越快乐。

原文：
Also through the villager's quality enhancement education 村民素質教育 , this young mother told us that she has learned how to better communicate with her daughter and began to enjoy and treasure the precious mother and daughter relationship.

译文：
此外，这位年轻的母亲告诉我，通过村民素质教育，她学会了怎样更好地和女儿沟通，从而开始学会珍惜和享受宝贵而亲密的母女关系。

There were so many villagers came out to welcome us. They made us feel very much like we were going home.

They have really prepared a very nice homecoming celebration for us!

A welcome communication meeting ( town hall meeting ) was held at this old village meeting place.

As you can see that the young and old, the man and woman all came to meet us. It was a very heart warming event indeed!

I told our friends in the village that this is the 3rd time I visited 康里村. As a results of our joined efforts, in the past two years they have made a lot of significant changes for a better life in the village. Their significant changes have brought us a lot of encouragements.

我告诉康里村的朋友们，这是我第三次来到这里了。为了让村民们过上更好的生活，在过去的两年里，通过共同的努力，我们促成了很多意义深远的改变。因为这些改变，我们得到了很多鼓励。

原文：
However, the most important changes of all are those brilliant sunshine smiling faces. From those faces I saw confidence and hope for a better tomorrow .

Thinking about what we are doing here today may bring a better future for those innocent smiling faces tomorrow, once again, it gave us the new strength we need to continue this long and difficult journey.
