Winning the Lottery 喜中人生头奖 By Michelle Pang 文 | 彭美萱 Few people have had the luck to win the lottery in their lifetime, but I hit the jackpot in mine…人生一世，只有极少的人能中一次奖，而我却中了头奖…… My father and Me 我与父亲 In my case, it wasn’t a sudden financial windfall, but rather, the fortune of having a father that is “one in a million”.在这里，我并不是说自己中了那种突发意外之财的大奖，而是说我有幸拥有一位万里挑一的好父亲。 In life, we usually don’t get to choose our parents and conversely, they don’t get to choose us, and for better or for worse, we make the best out of the cards we are dealt with.在人生中，通常来说，我们不可能去挑选父母，反过来说，父母也不可能挑选子女，不管是好是坏，我们都只能尽力去打好手上的牌。 For me, the stars aligned, and was dealt with a “royal flush” because the father I have gotten to know has become my most trustworthy confidant and my greatest role model.对我来说，真是上天眷顾，我得到的居然是“同花顺”，因为我的父亲，是我最可信赖的知己，以及最值得学习的榜样。 My father and Me 我与父亲 My father has a strong moral compass that always seems to point in the right direction and has been my anchor when I am adrift at sea.在德行方面，父亲如同磁力超强的指南针，总是为我指明正确方向。他也如同一枚巨锚，在我人生的小舟于大海中漂浮不定时，为我守护平安。 He is strict to himself and generous to others.他对己刻薄，待人宽厚。 He teaches you to save for a rainy day but to spend without regrets.他教你学会善用金钱和时间，该省则省，未雨绸缪，同时也要当花则花，不留遗憾。 He is grounded and reminds you to always be humble and grateful for all that you have.他脚踏实地，总是提醒你要保持谦卑，对所拥有的一切心怀感激。 He can simplify what is complex and deliver his explanations in a flow that is logical.他可以化繁为简，并清晰流畅地表达所思所想。 My father 我的父亲 He is a great listener, patient, calm, and in times of crises, he will put things into perspective – he would say with a smile, “the sky will not fall” and things will be OK.他是一位非常好的倾听者，富有耐心，异常冷静，在危机关头，他会跳出当下，以前瞻性眼光去看待事物——他会微笑着说，“‘天塌不下来的’，人生没有跨不过的坎，一切都会好的。” He lives with consistency, discipline, resilience, kindness, compassion and is the one constant in my life.他始终如一，严以律己，能快速自愈，心地善良，常怀悲悯，是我生命中恒常不变的那个人。 The father I know is pretty much the same person you will see – a simple man with a big, big heart.我所知的父亲，基本上和你们所看到的是同一个人——他是一个普通人，但有着一颗十分宽广的心。 I believe that the measure of life should not be based on what you accumulate or possess but how much you give, how many hearts you have touched and the love you have shared.我相信，人生意义的衡量，不在于你积攒或拥有了多少，而在于你给予了多少，在于你感动过多少人，分享过多少爱。 I am therefore extremely privileged in having a father who has done exactly this – giving his life to the Su-Lan Foundation and inspiring many along the way.所以，我是如此幸运，因为我的父亲正是这样的一个人——他把一生献给素兰基金会，激励着很多人一路前行。 Su-Lan Annual Meeting 2019 素兰年会合影（2019年8月于长沙） As you know, the Foundation is his passion and his life work.
