标题原文：由老有所乐到老有所为英文译作：Leading a meaningful life at olderages - from the pursuit of entertainment to worthiness  原文：六月中嘉里集团郭氏基金会在江西修水召开了第21次年会。修水是个革命老区，地处江西西部偏远山区，也是个国家级重点贫困县。这些年来，在政府的领导下，这个地区的发展非常快，基本上脱离了绝对贫困。译文：In mid-June, the Kerry Group Kuok Foundation (KGKF) held its 21st annual meeting in Xiushui, Jiangxi. It is an old revolutionary district and also a state-level poverty county, which is located in a remote mountainous region in western Jiangxi. Under the leadership of the government over the years, the county has developed rapidly and has basically been lifted out of absolute poverty. 原文：这次回访也让我想起了几年前在修水县大桥镇大桥村的村民座谈会上老书记给我们讲的几句话，他说改革开放几十年，我们社会的物质文明上去了，但是精神文明好像没跟上。我想他说的没错，这些年在政府的领导下，由于大家的辛勤努力，让我们偏远的贫困农村也基本上脱离了物质贫困，但是精神贫困或者精神文明的提升，还有待我们大家继续共同努力。译文：This return visit reminded me of a few wordsthat were told by the old party secretary at the villagers’ meeting inDaqiao Village, Daqiao Town, Xiushui County a few years ago. He said, “Fordecades of Reform and Opening Up, China’s material civilization has progressedgreatly, but spiritual civilization seemed to be left behind.” I think he is right. Under the leadership of thegovernment and all peoples’ hard work over the years, material poverty in theimpoverished rural areas has been basically eradicated, but still, we need toput more effort in alleviating spiritual poverty and promoting spiritualcivilization together. 原文：这些年我们很多贫困农村物质生活的提升，年轻人外出打工到城里去寻找机会，为农村创造多点额外的财富功不可没。但是多年来，由于出去打工的年轻人回来的都不多，农村的老龄化慢慢变得越来越严重，今天在我们的贫困农村中，我们看到了很多所谓空心村的出现，留在村中的大多数是老人和小孩。译文：In the past years, many of the young workersin the rural villages have migrated to the cities for better opportunities.They made some additional money to improve the material life of their familiesat the villages. However, since the migrant villagers seldom return, theproblem of population ageing is becoming a serious social problem. Today, theso-called “hollow villages” have become widely common in rural areas, whereelderly and children were mostly stayed behind. 原文：为了让老年人的生活能够有更多的乐趣，我第一次到访修水西堰村看到基金会在村里帮助成立的老年协会。它的成立和所有的活动都是为了让儿女不在身旁的老年人能够相互陪伴照应，能够“老有所乐”。译文：In my first visit to Xiyan Village, Xiushui afew years ago, I had the opportunity to see the elderly association which wasestablished with the help of KGKF. Its establishment and all its activities aimto enable elderly to keep each other company and have joyful lives amongthemselves.  原文：这次再回访西堰村，很高兴让我看到的是老年协会已经进入了一个更高的境界。他们已经由“老有所乐” 进入了“老有所为”。这个“为”字就不是光为老年协会的老人们自己，而是主动的进入社区去帮助社区和村庄中那些极为需要被帮助的人。译文：Came back to revisit Xiyan Village this time,I was very happy to see that the elderly association has entered a higherrealm. The elderly there were not only pursuing their own happiness, they alsoproactively reach out to do things to help those needy villagers in thecommunity.
原文：我在想由“老有所乐”转变为“老有所为”，也就是由“安身”进入了“立命”。 我真为他们高兴，因为在人生的这个阶段，能够由不光是只顾自己安身 - 让自己的日子过得更好，并且能跨过一个人生很不容易跨得过的坎，进入立命 - 别人因为遇见他们生命变得更加美好。他们在人生暮年，能为社会带来深远的影响和改变和可持续的价值，值得我们学习。译文：I think when the elderlyat this late stage of their lives can move from only pursuing their ownhappiness to reach out to also bring happiness to others, is entering a status ofgetting on their spiritual pursuit, instead of merely making a living. I amreally happy for them, because they have crossed a hurdle in life that is noteasy to cross. They are not only focusing on improving their own living, butalso bringing a happier life for others. They have created profound impacts andchanges as well as sustainable values to the society, which is worth learning.
