回顾
十年对任何人的一生都应该是一段不算短的时光，从2007 年嘉里集团郭氏基金会成立至今， 十年的岁月匆匆而逝。 几十年来， 在政府的领导下， 中国贫困地区人民的温饱问题已基本上得到解决，但建设一个机会分配公平的和谐社会还有待我们不懈努力。作为社会的一份子， 十年前清楚地看到这个社会所面临的一些严峻的社会问题， 为此， 我们感到需要站出来为社会承担一些责任，帮助解决当今社会面对的一些问题， 特别是贫困带来的问题。便在郭氏家族的带领下， 我们于2007 年成立了嘉里集团郭氏基金会。 我们认为机会分配不均是造成贫困的重要原因， 而提升人的素质与能力则会有效的帮助人们脱离贫困，我们深知改变人们的思维观念， 实现自身发展，绝非易事，但带着“知其不可为而为之，虽千万人吾往矣”的勇气，我们愿意做一群务实的理想主义者，来共同承担这个国民素质整体改造的重责大任。 十年前我们立下“敬天爱人”的使命，“可持续、可复制”的指导原则，和以卫生、教育、产业、环境为切入点来建立规范公德、公平和谐小康社会的策略，至今坚定不移。在这十年往前行的路上， 我们始终目标清楚， 手段灵活； 心怀大境界，手抓小细节。 社会问题向来非常复杂， 而且根深蒂固， 因由来已久， 也不会很快消失。然而我们相信，我们所建立并付诸实践的解决严峻社会问题的模式， 十年来， 在中国广大的农村和城市， 已经带来了一些微少但却意义深远的改变。规范公德的意识，已经慢慢地在人们生活中落地生根。 十年春秋， 我们在这片广大的土地上没有留下我们的名字， 只留下了我们的汗水和一些扎实的脚印。这本《十年回顾》记录了这些年来我们在这条帮助构建公平和谐小康社会的路上见证的深深感动人心的说不完的“改变”故事。彭定中 嘉里集团郭氏基金会总裁 二零一七年三月一日
Reflections
While a decade is not a short period of time in anyone’s life, the ten years since the establishment of Kerry Group Kuok Foundation in 2007 seem to have passed by in the blink of an eye.
Over the past several decades, the Chinese government has largely solved the basic needs of its poorest citizens, yet much work still remains to be done for the society to become fair and harmonious. Ten years ago, we saw clearly the pressing needs of our society, and we felt the urge to take on some responsibility for solving the problems of our society, especially those arising from poverty. Under the Kuok Family’s guidance, the Kerry Group Kuok Foundation was established in 2007.
We believe that the unfair distribution of opportunities is a primary cause of poverty, and that enhancing the quality and capability of people is an effective way to eradicate poverty. We are aware that changing people’s mind-set, and enabling them to achieve personal development, is no easy task. With the audacious attitude of “doing the impossible against all odds” (知其不可为而为之，虽千万人吾往矣), we were determined to be pragmatic yet idealistic, and persevered in doing our part in transforming the quality and capabilities of the people of this country.
Ten years ago, we set out on our mission of “respect for nature and love for people” (敬天爱人), and our guiding principles of “sustainability and replicability” (可持续、可复制). We established the strategy of building a rule-abiding, caring, fair, harmonious and well-off society (有规范公德的公平和谐小康社会) through the strategic areas of health, education, enterprise and environment. Today, we continue to stand firm in our mission, guiding principles, and strategy. In forging our path forward over this past decade, we have been flexible in our means but firm in our purpose; harboured great aspirations yet remained focused on the smallest of details.
Social issues have always been complicated and deep-rooted, and because they are as old as human history, they are not likely to disappear any time soon. Yet we believe that the poverty eradication model which we have established and implemented over the past 10 years has already made subtle but far-reaching impact across rural and urban China, and that a rule-abiding and caring mind-set has slowly but steadily taken root in people’s lives.
In the past ten years, we have not made a mark with our name on this vast landscape, but have left behind the sweat of our efforts and our solid footprints. Ten Years’ Reflections is a collection of some of the many deeply touching stories of change that we have witnessed in our journey towards building a fair, harmonious and well-off society.
