Looking around the world, it seems like that there are unlimited opportunities. However, it also seems like that the opportunities are not for everybody. As a matter of fact, the small group of the people enjoy the majority of the opportunities in the world today, and the majority of people are lack of opportunities. Therefore, I believe that the uneven distribution of the opportunities must be one of the most critical root causes of the disharmony of the world of our time.译文：

With that in mind, both the hard working people in the rural China and urban Hong Kong are the working poor of this society. They didn't sit there just open their mouths and wait to be fed. They have been working very hard to stand on their own feet with dignity and pride. However, even after all their great efforts, they still couldn't make their ends meet. Because they lack the capabilities to compete with others of the society on the level playing-field. They have been handicapped by the uneven or unfair distribution of the opportunities of the society. I think they are the people who really deserve all the helps they need from this society.
In the past ten years through Sulan Foundation, with some money but more important our dedicated time and heart, we have been trying to help the children of the working poor in both the rural and urban China. We hope that we can help them to establish their capabilities and enhance their caring hearts, so one day they can create opportunity for themselves and also are willing to help others.
Under the same mission, five years ago, we established the KGKF and began to help the rural and urban working poor of the mainland China and HK with an even more holistic approach. We aim to help to enhance both the capability and quality of people, so they can create opportunity for themselves and care to help others.
Looking back, in the past years, we believe that we have made some small but very significant changes in addressing one of most critical social problems of our time. We understand that this is a very long and difficult journey ahead of us. Together let's continue the journey with a humble and grateful heart, and great perseverance. 译文：
带着上面的这些问题，我们可以知道，不论是中国大陆的贫穷农民，还是香港的低收入者，他们长年累月地辛勤工作，却仍然摆脱不了贫穷。他们并没有坐在那里张大嘴巴等着别人来喂养。他们一直都在努力地工作，试图带着尊严与自豪，自己站立起来。但是，经过了所有的努力，他们还是连收支平衡都难以达到。因为他们缺少和别人在同一片竞技场展开竞争的能力。一直以来，他们遭遇着机会不均所带来的不公正待遇。我想这些人才是真正需要这个社会给予帮助的人。
在过去的10年里，通过素兰基金会，我们在中国的农村和城市里花了一些钱，更为重要的是，投入了一些时间，耗费了一些心血，去帮助一些出身于贫穷家庭的孩子们更好地成长。我们希望我们可以帮助这些孩子建立起他们的能力，并且培养出他们的爱心，这样有一天他们将可以为自己创造机会，也将愿意去帮助更多的人。
带着相同的信念，在5年前，我们创建了嘉里集团郭氏基金会，开始从更全局的眼光着手去帮助中国的穷人们脱贫致富，这些穷人既包括中国大陆的贫困农民，也包括香港的低收入者。我们的目的在于帮助这些人们提高他们的能力和素质，这样他们将可以为自己创造机会，并且将可以去帮助更多的人。
回头去看，在过去的这些年里，我们相信我们的确做出了一些改变。这些改变虽然微小，却意义深远，目的都在于为当今世界解决一些最为迫切的社会问题。我们知道，前面还有很长、很艰辛的路要去走。让我们心怀谦卑与感恩，带着不折不挠的决心，齐心协力，继续前行。
