2010年9月17日，彭定中先生应台湾政府的邀请协助检视台湾桃园机场，以下是他想与大家分享的风景和故事。

Recently I was invited by the government to share some of my experience in the airport management to the people of the airport Community and the press in Taiwan.

前不久，我受政府的邀请前往台湾，和机场社区的人及当地媒体分享一些我在机场管理方面的经验。

In addition to many smaller scale of the communication sessions, I also gave a talk to the representatives of the entire airport community of more than 20,000 people working at the Airport to serve customers, on the subject of The Airport Of The 21st Century.

译文：
此次行程中包括很多比较小的沟通会议。此外我也向与会的代表们（他们代表着整个机场社区两万多名为乘客服务的员工）作了一个题为“21世纪的机场”的演说。

原文：
The airport of the 21st century should not be just an infrastructure where passengers boarded and disembarked, cargo loaded and unloaded. It should be the center of the multi- model (air, land, sea) and multi- media (people, goods, information, capital) flows. Through the enhancement of the flows of people and goods, the airport of the 21st century will continue to create economical and social values to the society.

译文：
21世纪的机场，不应该只是一个乘客起降和货物装卸的基础设施，而应该是一个集海运、陆运、空运等多种方式运输，以及人流、物流、信息流、资金流等多种媒介交流、汇通的中心。通过对人流和物流的进一步加强，21世纪的机场将会继续为社会创造出经济和社会的价值。

Today we can see many airports equipped with the modern facilities, such as the new runways, taxiways, aprons...

译文：
今天，我们可以看到很多机场都配置了现代化的设备和设施，譬如新的跑道，新的滑行道，新的停机坪……

原文：
We can also see many airports today having very new and beautiful terminal building structures. They can provide the state of the art shopping, dining and entertainment facilities to the passengers. However, the ultimate competitive strength of the airport business of the 21st century is not the hardware which can be easily procured today. It's the people related software, the well established and implemented 理念，体系，制度，流程. It's the ability to attract, develop and retain the good people, and enable them to fulfill their potentials. It is to have the people working at the airport who do not just comply, but more important willing to commit( 有承担), willing to walk the extra mile which will eventually make all the differences. I believe this is what it takes to become the first class airport of the 21st century and to be able to bring the pride to the people of th
e community.

译文：
我们也可以看到，现在很多机场都修建了全新、漂亮的候机大楼，可以为乘客提供购物、餐饮和娱乐等服务。但在21世纪，机场行业最根本的竞争力并不在于机场的硬件——硬件是很容易可以做到的——而是在于和人相关的软件，在于建立并执行一套良好的理念、体系、制度和流程；在于能够吸引、培养和留住优秀的人才，并让他们充分发挥出自己的潜能；在于让机场的员工不仅仅是依照规章制度来办事，更重要的是，让他们为了把事情做到更好而愿意主动去“承担”，愿意主动去“多做一些”，这才是提升机场服务水平的关键。我相信如果做到这些，人们就可以打造出21世纪的一流机场，并为整个社区带来骄傲和荣耀。
