2009年10月中旬，彭定中先生前往四川绵竹看望地震灾区群众并视察嘉里集团郭氏基金会在当地的扶贫基地，以下是他要与我们分享的故事。

原文：
We have worked in Sichuan since July 2008, with the hope to bring some changes to the people in the ruin from last year's tragic earthquake. Last week, sitting there in the communication session with the villagers you can see in the picture, to find out what changes have we made to those people from the ruin after the earthquake.

译文：
2008年7月，带着帮助灾区人们重建新生活的希望，我们开始在四川灾区展开工作。上个星期，我们坐在这里和村民们召开了一个交流会，看看我们给苦难中的他们都带来了哪些改变。

原文：
People are still conducting many of their daily activities in the middle of the dusting road.

译文：
人们的很多日常活动仍然是在布满尘土的公路上进行。

As you can also see some of them still living in the temporary housing, but not for long.

We have almost completed the construction of over 2000 houses in Manzhou earthquake zone. Many of the people have already moved in.

Of course, the roads, power and water supply, and other infrastructures need also be completed quickly.

Moving into the new houses is only the 1st step of the changes . We have also quickly kicked off some health and education related projects in the villages to make sure that the people will be able to rebuild their new lives with great hope and confidence.

Of course, we still have a long way to go. However,after more than a year of the dedicated efforts, we can begin to see some noticeable signs of changes in the village people today. What has encouraged me the most was the showing of the caring hearts of those poor villagers from the earthquake ruin. To show that anybody can help provided you have a caring heart, last month those poor people have donated whatever they can afford to help the victims of the recent typhoon in Taiwan. Hope you still remember what I told you in our August Changsha get together. You don't have to wait until one day you become rich to help others. Please remember that you can help many people today just with a caring and loving heart.

当然，未来的路仍然很长。但是经过一年多的努力，我们已经可以在村民们身上看到一些显著的变化。最让我感到鼓舞的是，这些身处贫困的人对他人仍然表现出一颗关爱之心。如果有一颗关爱的心，任何人都可以去帮助别人。上个月，村民们在为台湾台风灾区举办的募捐中捐出了他们所能够捐出的所有东西。希望你们还记得8月份我在长沙聚会上说过的话。要去帮助别人，并不需要等到有一天你有钱了才能去做。请记住，只要有一颗关爱的心，你们今天也可以去帮助很多的人。
