2009年8月13日，彭定中先生前往日本东京。在这次旅途中，他为我们带来以下的风景和故事。

Last visit to Tokyo was in the spring over a year ago. I was invited to come here to give a speech. This time came back in the mid summer. Summer months are not the best season to visit Tokyo. It is normally hot and humid here especially in the August.

译文：
我上一次到访东京是在一年前的春天。那次是受邀来这里作一个演讲。这次在仲夏时节我又来到东京。到东京来，夏天并不是最好的季节。因为这个时节东京的气候通常是炎热和潮湿的，在8月尤其如此。

Under the mid summer hazy sky, I am sorry to say that Tokyo looking from distance, can not be considered as one of more beautiful cities in the world at all.

译文：
在仲夏时节灰蒙蒙的天空下，我要很抱歉地说，从远处望去，东京根本算不上是世界上比较美丽的城市之一。

To appreciate Tokyo, you have to zoom in a close view, such as this small running water next to the office tower near my hotel. If you open your eyes and hearts, you will find lot's such beautiful pleasant surprises in Tokyo.

译文：
要欣赏东京，你得从近距离把它放大了去看，譬如说紧挨我入住酒店的写字楼旁边的这一处小型流水。如果你睁大眼睛用心去看，在东京，你会找到很多处这样漂亮、迷人的小小惊喜。

I always appreciate the beauty of the simplicity created by the Japanese. They spend a lot of time to focus on the details of a very simple subject. They respect and enjoy that process of the cultural creativity. As a results, while embracing the changes of the world, they can still strongly maintain the traditions accumulated and valued through the generations.

译文：
我总是很欣赏日本人所创造出来的那些简单之美。他们会花很多时间专注于一个细小事物的细节上。他们尊重和享受这种文化创造的过程。结果是，在迎接世界变化的同时，他们仍可以保持那些代代相传、为他们所持重的传统。

The greens at the far side of this picture is the royal palace. Japan maintains one of the longest royal heritage in the world. It doesn't look like that there will be any change in this regard anytime soon. While the royal tradition may not have much substantial meaning today, it is a good indication that Japanese are not ready to embrace the changes of the world and give up all their traditions they valued,

译文：
照片中远侧那片绿荫处，就是日本天皇的皇宫。日本沿袭至今的天皇制度是世界上保留最长的君主制度之一。并且看来这件事情在短期内不会有任何变化。在君主制度已经没有太多实质意义的今天，天皇制度的保留象征着这样的一个事实：虽然也在迎接着世界的改变，但若要为此而放弃所有持重的传统，日本还没有做好准备。

Now there is a huge restoration project ongoing in Tokyo to restore the appearance of this century old station. More important, it also helps the Japanese to restore some of their most cherished memories.

今天我们的聚会刚刚结束，我知道自己以前对自己的家做的不够，所以现在休息的时候就把尚迎芳的电脑拿出来。来到我们的家看看，刚才看完彭先生的这篇文章，从标题再结合这次的长沙聚会的体会，我觉得彭先生在看到东京的现在与过去的样子告诉我们在创新、变化的同时，也不要忘本，应该将过去有价值的传统保留下来并传承下去。即择善固执      我想这是我今天来看这篇文章的一点感受吧!
也许下次再来看时，会另有一番风味。

往往一些被人忽视的小细节，每每都能在关键时刻、拉动人内心的那根弦，以小及大。

人和物既然存在，总有属于他们自己的美丽；而这种美丽，须要用心才会发现。

感触最深的一句话是：如果你睁大眼睛用心去看，在东京，你会找到很多处这样漂亮、迷人的小小惊喜。
平时生活中我们也得睁大眼睛用心去看，才会发现很多平时为我们所忽略的事情~~

open your eyes and hearts，直译的话应为“睁开你的眼睛，畅开你的心扉”，但在这里，我想结合上下文并且发扬开去的话，我们也许可以将其理解为“睁大眼睛用心去看，你会发现很多美丽”。我想这是此文的第一个文眼。

restore some of their most cherished memories. 直译的话应为“重建起一些最为珍贵的回忆”。我想也许可以理解为“找回温暖的回忆”，这应该是此文的另外一处文眼。

If you open your eyes and hearts, you will find lot's such beautiful pleasant surprises in Tokyo.
我这次不仅是看了英语，也在努力地接受彭先生所传出的信息，我会试着去发现生活中的美好细小点滴。

简单地生活，学会发现并且享受细小的美。
优秀的传统文化是精髓，是灵魂。精髓和灵魂是不会轻易被丢掉的，万事万物都是有精髓和灵魂的。
