2009年11月9号，彭定中先生再次前往云南墨江视察香港嘉里集团郭氏基金会在当地的脱贫基地。以下是他想和我们分享的故事。

原文：
Came back to revisit the 癸能村 village school in 云南墨江. I was extremely happy to be greeted by those little lovely smiling faces.

译文：
重访云南墨江的癸能村小学，孩子们前来迎接。看到这一张张可爱的笑脸，我的心里满怀高兴。

原文：
I was very happy to see the little girl at the left side of the picture wearing a pair of white sneaker and school uniform. I remembered that during my last visit a few months ago many of the children were wearing slippers in the cold winter. The very first thing we have done for the school was to give the kids some shoes and new school uniforms.

译文：
看到照片左侧那个小女孩穿上了白运动鞋和校服，我很开心。记得上次来这里时，大部分的孩子在寒冷的冬天还穿着拖鞋。所以我们为学校做的第一件事就是给孩子们送来一些鞋子和新校服。

原文：
Looking at those kids and their new shoes reminded me my elementary school days many many years ago. We lived in the countryside and were quite poor. I and some of my schoolmates walked about an hour to school everyday with our bare feet. There were very few students in my class could afford shoes those days. Actually it was quite convenient to walk in the narrow dirt rural path barefooted especially in the rainy days. Of course, the memory of the cold winter morning walking with our bare feet on the freezing ground to school was not always that pleasant.

译文：
看见孩子们穿上新鞋的样子，我想起了自己上小学时候的光景，那是很多很多年以前的事。那时我们住在乡下，家里很穷。我和一些同学每天都光着脚板走大约一个小时的路去上学。在那个时候，班上只有极少的同学穿得起鞋。其实在狭窄而布满尘土的乡村小路上光着脚板走路反而很方便，下雨天尤其如此。当然，在寒冷的冬天大清早光着脚板在走在冰凉的地上去上学，那可不是一件美好的回忆。

原文：
In addition to the shoes and school uniforms, we have also equipped the school with computers and provided the teachers with appropriate trainings to enhance their teaching capabilities.

We have also helped this 哈尼 woman in the picture and many other families in the village to get the electricity and water supply to their homes and eventually to bring them better lives.

译文：
除了给孩子们送来鞋子和校服外，我们也给学校配置了一些电脑，给学校的老师提供了适当的培训以增强他们的施教能力。

我们也帮照片中这位哈尼族妇女以及很多村民的家里解决了供电和供水的问题，通过这些来帮他们生活得更好一些。

It was a delicious home cooking dinner in the village.

译文：
村里用一顿丰盛可口、家常风味的晚餐来招待我们。

Even had some minority music by blowing the leaf.

译文：
我们还欣赏到了用吹叶子的方式来演奏的少数民族音乐。

Do I look like a 哈尼 elder ?

译文：
我看上去像不像一个哈尼族老人？

原文：
My colleagues were planting a baby walnut tree here. You can hardly see the small tree today in the picture. I was told that 7 or 8 years from now when we come back, we'll be able to eat the nice walnuts. The old Chinese saying tells us that it takes 10 years to grow a tree, but takes 100 years to develop a person. The "physical shoes" which we have provided to them can address only the immediate physical needs of the children of the Kui Nen village. It is the "spiritual shoes" we need to continue to provide to them in the future years which will really address their spiritual needs and bring them and others the happy lives.

译文：
我的同事们正在植下一棵核桃树苗。从照片上看去，树苗小得几乎看不见。人们告诉我，七、八年后我们再回来，那时我们就可以吃上可口的核桃了。中国的古谚说“十年树木，百年树人”。我们给癸能村小学送来的那些鞋子，它们是“物质意义上的鞋”，只是暂时满足了孩子们身体上穿鞋的需要。在接下来的日子里，我们要源源不断地把“精神意义上的鞋”送给这里的人们，这些才是他们真正所需要的。这些“精神意义上的鞋”将给他们，以及给更多的人们带来幸福美满的生活。
