In 2002 Shanghai was granted the right to be the host of the 2010 Expo. Since then, it has been the entire city's common objective to successfully hold this great event. Looking back, the 1st Expo was held in London 1851 to exhibit the industrial achievements of the countries around the 19th century world. The world has obviously changed greatly since then. About 160 years later, the theme of this 2010 Expo has been chosen to be "Better City, Better Life" to reflect the major focus of the world today.

2002年，上海获得了2010年世界博览会（简称“世博会”）的主办权。从那时起，成功地举办这场盛会就成为这个城市共同的目标。回望历史，1851年，为了展出19世纪的工业发展成果，伦敦举办了第一届世博会。从1851年至今，世界已经发生了太多的变化。160年后的今天，在本届世博会上，“城市，让生活更美好”的主题，反映了当今世界最为关注的焦点。

Walking along the Expo Boulevard, you can see a clutch of astonishing structures representing different countries around the world. They have all been designed with one goal in mind, to explore how city dwellers will live in the future. This expo is to focus on life in the city and how we can improve it. It is a timely and essential theme. More than half of the world's population, over 3 billion, are now living in urban areas today.

Of course, the most popular country pavilion of all is the Chinese pavilion, themed "Chinese wisdom in urban development". It's a stunning red structure uses wooden dougong brackets, an ancient Chinese architectural element, as well as modern solar power.

Although the Chinese pavilion will be a permanent landmark even after the Expo period. However, If you wish to visit the pavilion today, you'd better prepare for more than 3 hours of time standing in line.

This is the Expo Culture Center which will host some 20,000 international cultural events during the 6 month of Expo period.

Since I can not afford the long waiting time, as you can see from this picture, I avoided many of the hot popular country pavilions.

Among the over 200 country and regional pavilions, I have visited only 7 pavilions which I didn't have to stand in line.

I had the pleasure of visiting both French and German Pavilions.
It's very interesting that the fundamental culture differences of the two countries were fully reflected in the exterior design and the internal displays of the two pavilions. The German are very down to the earth specific, while the French tried to present in a more conceptual manner on a future city life they think it should be.

Of course, you can also find some common themes among the different country pavilions. First, you can easily notice the emphasis of the application of modern technology for tomorrow's city life in most of the country pavilions. The demand for greener and more environmental friendly life is also a must. The most important message of all is that the city is a place where the people create the stories of life. After all, city is meaningful only when it can bring better lives for people. I think this should be the real theme of the Shanghai Expo.

当然，在这些不同的国家馆中，还是可以找到一些共同的主题。首先，你可以很容易地发现，大部分的国家馆都强调现代科技在未来城市生活中的运用。其次，更加绿色、更加环保也是必备的元素。而最重要的信息则在于，城市是人们创造生活故事的地方。毕竟，只有在给人们带来优质生活的时候，城市的存在才会有意义。我想这才是上海世博会最真切的主题。

People visit the Shanghai Expo should be reminded that this is a site of an area of more than 5 square kilometers, with more than 200 pavilions spread along both side of the Huang Pu River. Under the bright sunshine, people standing in line for hours, got worn out quickly. Taking a small nap like this couple, then continue their journey to explore the largest Expo in history, may not be a bad idea.

参观世博会的游人应该得到提醒，这是一个占地超过5平方公里的大型博览会，共计有200多个场馆分布在黄浦江两岸。加上数小时地在烈日下排队等候，人们很容易就会产生疲倦。就像这对夫妻这样，在打个小瞌睡后再继续参观，好好欣赏这有史以来最大的世博会，这也许不失为一个好主意。

昨天我与同学去逛了世博,里面的却很漂亮,并且很大.正如彭先生所说,要做好排队的准备.

出来后有人说,没劲,觉得人太多,并且场馆太多,一路就在走马观花.并有这一说法”看了难受几天,不看就难过一辈子”.

也有人看了,之后意犹未尽,表示会买票接着逛.

各个国家的馆都挺富有创意，对于我这个在学习建筑的人来说真是大开眼界。

建议大家在逛馆之前,可以做做功课,我想逛完之后就会收获更多.

当城市化进行得如火如荼的时候，我们势必要考虑诸如生活质量、环境污染、就业..............等问题，因为这才是长宜之计。

真希望有机会去看下世博会。
像楼上说的一样，中国城市面临的问题还很多，人口拥挤，环境卫生，生活压力等等，我们还需要努力。

世博，一直都在寻找一个最佳时机去看，买的那个票已经躺在包里好久了
一开始真不能理解为什么要用“城市让生活更美好”这个主题
总觉得好像有点忽视农村的意思，但现在又好像真的明白了
我们现在的发展似乎归根到底变成了城市的发展，也就是说城市的发展衍变成了人类的发展
我想听一下彭先生对于这个主题的理解，谢谢！

世博会让人向往，但是烈日下的排队又让人心生畏惧

真的很美，有空要去看看
我想随着经济的发展，将会有更多的农村变为城市，人们以后的生活与城市息息相关。
改善城市生活，是各个城市现在乃至以后的目标。这是我对世博主题的理解！

我想人类社会的发展与城市的发展是必然紧密相连、不可分开的。一个国家城市化的水平，很大程度上代表了这个国家的发展水平。

城，以盛民也；市，买卖之所也。

城，是用来让人民居住的。市，是用来交换、贸易的场所。这两样东西，相互分不开，同时它们的存在也让人民的生活更为便利和美好。城市本身的积极功能是毋庸置疑的，关键在于我们在发展城市的时候，要平衡、掌握好方方面面的利与弊。就像彭先生在另一篇文章中所说，The sustainable urban design, is vital to a city's long tern development and the well being of the future generations.“可持续的城市规划和设计，对一个城市的长期发展和子孙后代们的福祉有着至关重要的意义。”
