Sharing With The Brilliant Young Minds At Stanford University中文译作:与斯坦福大学同学们的对话 原文: If I remember correctly, this is the second time I had the opportunity to visit Stanford University campus. In California. I think that Stanford has one of the most beautiful campus among all the universities in the United States. Its architectures, fountains and gardens designed with the special Spanish character blended very well into the beautiful sunshine and the gentle breeze of the San Francisco Bay. This university with long and great tradition and very high academic standard, has developed many outstanding leaders for the America and the world. I am invited to Stanford to give a talk at this building to the students by the Forum for American and Chinese Exchange at Stanford (FACES). It becomes more and more obvious, in today's world, without a good relationship between the US and China, no major issues of the world can be addressed properly. With that in mind, a good Chinese and American relationship is extremely important to both countries and the world. However, a good relationship always begins with the good mutual understanding, and the good mutual understanding comes from the good and opened people to people exchanges. I think that's the purpose of my visit and the theme of my talk here today at Stanford. I hope through the sharing and exchanges with some of the most brilliant minds in the world, I have helped in a small way to enhance the mutual understanding between the American and Chinese. I was extremely impressed by the depth of the questions the students raised at the end of my talk. I was also very pleased to see the eagerness and enthusiasm of the students for wanting to better understand the rural issues of China and their willingness to help.
Dear Dr. David Pang,
It was a great experience to listen to your talk on Wednesday, and I just want to express my thanks for your insights, your vision, and your dedication to an admirable cause.
I had arrived at the talk expecting an information session about another NGO, but you offered much more in the short span of an hour. You painted for us a vision of a wonderful future and offered a method of achieving it. The most striking thing, as many have mentioned, is the holistic approach to treating social problems and engaging all of society to confront and solve these pressing issues. What struck me most, however, was your emphasis on the importance of instilling values in the next generation and shaping people to become active contributors in society. This alone, I believe, would be the noblest of efforts, and perhaps the most difficult as well. The value of societies do change, but it often requires much more than just education. In this world of information/idea sharing, it seems increasingly difficult to create a society of common values and shared beliefs. Maybe people can, will, and ought to derive different values from their own unique set of experiences. Despite these concerns, however, I am expectant to hear great advances in your projects and ways to overcome these difficulties.
On the verge of college graduation, I, too, am looking for my values and searching for the most important things in my life. Your talk has definitely inspired me and helped me look to new directions. I hope that one day, when I have gained the knowledge and skills to help others, I can follow your example and diligently commit to pursuing the things most important to me (and maybe that means joining in your efforts!).
Thank you again, for your time and your vision of a better world.
Sincerely,
