Freezing Jan In Paris

It has been a freezing winter for most part of the Europe. It's obviously not the best time to visit Paris. The airplane arrived Paris airport in the snow without much delay.

Paris got to be one of the most charming city in the world, in its elegant city alley street lights,

The outdoor coffee stands,

Or the grand old building with the beautiful French balcony.

But the most charming part of all is this charming and elegant river, the SEINE.

The river flows through the city, or we should say that the city was established along the river through the years.

I think the River SEINE has witness the growing history of Paris generation after generation.

A river boat tour may not be a bad idea to learn the history of the development of Paris.

Yet I think the best way to learn and enjoy Paris is to walk along the river SEINE which I do it whenever I have a chance to visit Paris. Walking can help you to observe and think about the things and the people surrounding with depth.

Along the Seine, the Notre Dame got to be one of the most important landmark of Paris. This is the first time I see it in the snowy winter.

Also I got to see it in the morning sun.

Look at from far.

And at close.

From Notre Dame walk west along the river, the next important landmark would be the Museum of Louvre.

This is well know I M Pei's design of the museum entrance.

And the beautiful fountain and reflection pond besides the entrance.

It's also interesting to see how this modern design blend with the old in harmony from inside out.

An upside down glass pyramid decorating the entrance hall which attracts a lot of visitor's attention.

Of course the most famous piece of exhibition of the museum, as you all know, got to be this smiling face.

It's always nice to see some young visitors visiting the museum. It's important to introduce the sense of beauty to the young minds at the early stage of their lives. I wish that I had the opportunity to learn to appreciate the art when I was at their age.

If you keep walking along the river, you'll see Museum of D'ORSAY, a smaller but very nice museum with lots of great collections just on the west side of the river bank. This is Michelle's favorite museum which I didn't have time to visit during this trip. If you still have energy by now, continue to walk along the river, you will then see the famous Eiffel tower, the Statue of Liberty etc, etc.

Another important thing to see along the river are the many well designed, old but very beautiful bridges. Every such bridge on the Seine has an unique interesting story to tell!

The tiny river side parks, good quiet place to sit down to relax, just watching the river barge passing by and do nothing.

In the warmer days, you may also see many passionate lovers enjoy themselves on the riverside benches. I guess that they did spread a lot of romantic flavor in the air for Paris.

If you have the time and the mood, you may also be able to find a good old book from one of the many riverside used book stands.

Those old pictures may help people to bring back some nice memories of their good old days.

Under the freezing temperature, you can still see a few people who insist to sit outside in the cold air to enjoy their hot coffee. We have to give them some respect for being so persistence and so passionate about enjoying life in their own way. I guess that it is because many people like them made Paris a city full of passion.

One more thing I would also like to mention it here about the River of Seine. This small, elegant but inexpensive hotel renovated from an old house is located on an island in the middle of the Seine river. By coincidence, about 20 years ago, I took Mother and Michelle for their first European trip we also stayed in this very same hotel in Paris. Now 20 years have passed, the island and the hotel are still the same. Michelle has also grown up, only Mother is no longer with us. Walking along the river, the picture and the voice of Mother became so vivid in me. I do miss her a lot.

I hope that you all have enjoyed this half day Seine river tour by foot with me. I think Seine is really the soul of this well designed, well built and very important, well maintained great city in the world. I also believe that Seine has been and will continue to be the source of passion and innovation for the people of Paris.
