2010年12月6日，彭定中先生前往湖南保靖视察嘉里集团郭氏基金会在当地的扶贫基地，以下是他想与大家分享的风景和故事。

原文：
Had a very short and intense 2 full day visit to Baojing. I was very pleased to again see all the mountains and the simple Tu Jia village houses blended together in such a great harmony. They are as beautiful as ever.

译文：
刚刚去了一趟保靖。只是短短的两天，行程排得很满。再次看到这大山里的土家村寨，真是让人心旷神怡。大山、房屋、田野、村落，如此优美、和谐的融为一体。这画面永远是那么美。

原文：
The young mother and baby's smiles are as sweet as ever.

译文：
年轻的母亲和她的孩子，他们的笑脸永远都是那么甜美。

原文：
People work hard in the field as always.

译文：
人们一如既往地在地里辛勤地劳作。

原文：
So does the animal.

译文：
辛勤劳作的还有这些牲口们。

原文：
As a results of their hard work, good harvest looked beautifully on the(柿子) tree.

The newly built green house grows the off season vegetables.

With our help the villagers continue to build roads to enhance their accessibility within the village.

译文：

We are also helping the villagers to develop sources of drinking water with dependable quantity and good quality.

译文：
为了让村民们喝上干净的水，我们也在帮助村民们开发稳定的饮用水源。

And then to pipe the water to all the households.

译文：
然后架设管道，让家家户户都喝上自来水。

For irrigation and animals' consumptions, we have also helped the villagers to repair this water reservoir previously damaged. Now the dam is safe and the surrounding looks quite beautiful.

译文：
为了解决灌溉用水和牲畜用水，我们也帮助村民们修缮了这座曾经破损的小水库。现在水库的堤坝已经变得很安全，水库周围的环境也变得美观起来。

原文：
With our help the individual families have also built those rain water storage basins to store the rain water for urgent needs. All these efforts have also helped to enhance the villager's awareness that water is the most precious resource of the mankind.

译文：
在我们的帮助下，村民们自己家里也建起了这些蓄水池，用来贮存雨水以备紧急之需。我们所做的这些工作，也让村民们对“水是人类最珍贵的资源”有了更加深刻的认识。

原文：
With our help the renovation of this village school has completed.

译文：
在我们的帮助下，村民们对这所村属小学进行了翻修改造，现在已经完工。

原文：
As you can see here, we took the renovation work as an opportunity to educate the villagers the importance of the electrical wiring. In addition to provide them with the hardware, we have also enhanced their safety awareness to prevent the fire incidents for those very comfortable and beautiful traditional wooden structures in the region.

译文：
如同你们看到的，我们乘着这次翻修改造村小学的机会，对村民们进行了电线布设的教育，让他们认识到了用电安全的重要性。除了给他们提供所需的硬件设施外，我们也增强了他们对消防事故的防治意识。在这种舒适、漂亮的传统木房里，我们要消除发生火灾事故的安全隐患。

原文：
Of course, the school buildings would not do any good unless we can provide those lovely children under the school building roof the very good quality of education.
Let's remember that the hardware is just the means, only the software can provide us with the real end. In our efforts to help the poor peasants, all the means should have an end.

译文：
当然，如果不能给学校里这些可爱的孩子们提供良好的教育，那么我们修造再好的校舍也没有意义。让我们记住，硬件只是手段，只有“软件”才是我们真正的目的。我们用各种各样的手段来帮助这些穷苦的农民，所有这些手段，都应该有一个最终的目的。

原文：
One of the very important software we are trying to develop in the village through the health care education is to change villager's mind set so that they wouldn't throw garbage in the public areas. With this little girl holding the bloom to help the cleaning, looks like our efforts are beginning to work!

译文：
我们对村民们进行卫生保健的宣传教育，想要达到一些“软件”上的目的。其中很为重要的一项，就是通过这些宣传教育来改造村民们的思想意识，使得他们不在公共场所里乱扔垃圾。这个小女孩也拿着一把小扫帚来帮忙扫地，看来我们的努力已经初见成效！

原文：
I was very pleased to see how clean the village surrounding is today.

译文：
看见现在的村子里变得干干净净，我感到很开心。

原文：
This was the creek full of garbage during my last visit. Now it is quite clean. The villagers' behavior change came from their mind set change. Those changes may look small and easy. However, it represents the results of many great efforts made by the villagers as well as our colleagues. They have put their hearts and committed their time for it.

译文：
上次我来时，这条小溪里到处都是垃圾，现在这里已经变得非常干净。村民们这些行为举止的改变，源自于他们内心深处思想意识的改变。这些改变，可能看上去很小且不是很难。但是，它是村民们，以及我的同事们努力付出的结果。他们的确为之付出了很多用心，花费了不少时间。

原文：
I think all of you would be pleased to know that even the street of Boajing town became much cleaner than before.

译文：
现在，就连保靖县城的街上也比以前干净多了。看到这样的变化，我想你们都会感到高兴吧。

原文：
It's always nice to hold a small town hall meeting with the villagers. The meeting gave me a great opportunity to better understand how the villagers think and feel directly.

译文：
和村民们坐下来开一个小小的民意座谈会，总是非常好的一件事。在这个会议上，我可以直接地和村民们交谈，从而更好地了解到他们的想法和感觉。

原文：
At the end what really make the difference are the beautiful smiling faces like these:

译文：

And the smiling faces like these which have renewed my strength again and again.

译文：

目前全球都深深地意识到了软实力的重要性，前不久又出来一个新词“软制衡”
关注是有了，期待我们国家更落实的行动，当然我们应该做好自己应该做的

那些农村真的变得美好很多了，看着这些山山水水的，真的想快点回去，亲眼看到这些变化
