2010年9月下旬，彭定中先生前往湖北省大别山区视察嘉里集团郭氏基金会在当地的扶贫基地，以下是他想与大家分享的风景和故事。

This is the 3rd visit I have made this year to these 2 very poor villages of the 大别山区 in Hubei.

这是我今年第三次来到这两个位于湖北省大别山区的贫困农村。

This is the autumn harvest time. As you can see here a little bit of peanuts were just harvested from the field.

译文：

Also you can see is the sesame just harvested from field.

This is the first time I saw sesame plants. The farmers showed me how easy it is to collect the sesame seeds. All you need to do is to hold it upside down and shack it gently, the seeds would then be separated and fall out from the plant.

译文：
这是我第一次看见成枝的芝麻。村民向我演示了怎样从芝麻枝上取下芝麻籽。你所要做的，就是把芝麻枝成束的倒过来，然后轻轻摇动，芝麻籽就会从枝上脱落下来。

These are the honey bee houses. The honey bees have never stopped their hard work.

译文：
这是蜂房。蜜蜂们永远都在不知疲倦地辛勤劳动。

原文：
The farmers wanted to show their hospitality and insisted to give me a bottle of the real natural fresh honey. I mixed the honey with some warm water and drank it that night. It had a bit sweet wine taste, very nice! It has helped me to recover from my long and tight visiting schedule.

译文：
村民们为了表达他们的热情好客，一定要给我送一瓶正宗的新鲜自然的蜂蜜。那天晚上，我和着温水喝了一些，有一点甜葡萄酒的味道，非常好喝！这蜂蜜帮助我从这几天紧张的访问行程中得到一些恢复。

This friendly old lady lives alone in this old house.

译文：
这位老太太非常友好，她一个人住在这所老房子里。

原文：
I was very impressed that she can kept her small room so clean and neat. I think she has taught us that poor should never be an excuse for being dirty .

译文：
让我印象深刻的是，这位老人的小房间是如此的干净和整齐。我想她让我们懂得了，贫穷永远都不应该是脏和乱的理由。

I was glad to see that there was enough wood in the house to keep her through the winter.

译文：

Many young people have left for the city to make a better living. They have left behind them the old and young and the empty and lonely feeling in the house.

译文：
为了过上好一点的生活，很多年轻人都离开农村去了城市。他们把老人和小孩留在村里，让他们留守在这人去楼空的房子里，终日与孤独相伴。

This old man has been there fishing for many hours without catching a fish. I guess that he is enjoying the process of fishing. With that in mind, with or without a fish does not bother him anymore.

译文：
这位悠然垂钓的老人，坐在那里已经有好几个钟头，但是什么也没有钓到。我想他是在享受这个“钓”的过程。这样的话，是否钓到一条鱼，对他来说根本就不重要了。

The students are walking back from school with their heavy school bags in the rain. Looks like they will have a lot home work to do tonight .

译文：
学生们放学了。他们背着重重的书包，冒着雨走回家来。看来今天晚上他们有很多的作业要做。

As I normally would do, I held a villagers representatives meeting to listen and to better understand the difficulties they are facing and what's their urgent needs.

译文：
跟往常一样，我召开了一次村民代表会，来倾听和了解村民们所面临的困难，以及他们最迫切需要解决的问题。

In the past months, we have also held many communication and education sessions like this one to enhance the level of health awareness of the villagers.

译文：
这是一场卫生知识宣讲会。在过去的几个月里，我们举办了很多这样的会议，来提高村民们的卫生和健康意识。

During the trip, I also had the opportunity to give a talk to a group of approximately 500 prefectural government officials. We hope through this kind of communication, we would be able to enhance the consensus between us and our most important partner, the local government officials. Only when we can establish the consensus among us, we would then be able to have the passion to work together to bring better lives to the poor villagers. It is very obvious that this will be a very long and difficult journey. However, as shown in this picture compare with my last visit, most of the garbage spread all over the village previously has disappeared. This gave me great confidence that we will reach the end of the journey someday.

这次出差，我也有机会向大约500名地方政府的官员们作了一个演讲。我们希望通过这样的交流，来提高我们和政府官员之间的共识，他们是我们最重要的合作伙伴。只有和当地政府建立起了共识，我们才能够建立起合作的激情，来为贫穷的村民们带来更美好的生活。显然，这是一次漫长而艰辛的长征。但是，就像照片中看到的那样，跟我上一次来这里时相比，我们已经看不到满地随处可见的垃圾。这给了我很大的信心。长征的路虽然还很遥远，但终有一天我们会到达胜利的终点。

相信智慧加上坚持最后就会胜利。

照片中那位独居的老奶奶，像极了我的外婆。外婆已经去世十多年了。

It is very obvious that this will be a very long and difficult journey. However……we will reach the end of the journey someday. 显然，这是一次漫长而艰辛的长征。但是……终有一天我们会到达胜利的终点。

很多事情都是这样。让我们一起努力。

看到老奶奶整洁的房间，让我想到了目前农村垃圾问题，贫穷不代表脏，农村一样可以很干净整洁！
一点一点地改变，相信在基金会与政府的付出下，村民一定会得到收获，他们的生活定会越来越美好！

改变一点点在发生。下一次彭先生再去的时候，他们或许会有更多更好的变化。百忙之中，彭先生注意身体！

和政府合作，相信政府在与基金会的合作中也会慢慢接受基金会的理念，将抚贫工作做得更好

保靖正在改变，街上的垃圾越来越少了，特别是教育局门口的垃圾山已经和我们告别了！

This old man has been there fishing for many hours without catching a fish. I guess that he is enjoying the process of fishing. With that in mind, with or without a fish does not bother him anymore.

年轻人到城市里讨生活，同时也享受城市里的娱乐；老人独居乡村，享受钓鱼之乐，希望他钓鱼的时候不会感到孤独和寂寞~~~~~~~

他们就象蜜蜂一样默默的耕耘着，用他们自己的方式诠释着生活。

勤劳与坚持指导着他们一步步变好，点点滴滴的改变终究会带来天翻地覆的改变，相信小康离他们不远了
长征途中，有他们的努力一定是能走到尽头的
