Compare with China, America is a very young country. This young country has come a long way since its establishment in 1776. I think Washington is the best place to help people to understand how US has become a strong country as it is today in it's very short history.

I used to come to Washington quite often to visit Michelle in Georgetown, a very popular district of Washington DC.

Along the Potomac River, the buildings you can see it from far is the Georgetown University. I did not have time during this trip to go back to revisit the campus where Michelle spent her university years and had a lot of fond memories.

I think that this center of power, history,and government really starts right here at the Washington Memorial Monument. It was built in 1884 in memory of the independence war and the country's first president, George Washington.

As a matter of fact, as part of the city planning, it was decided that the monument should be the tallest structure of the city. No buildings are allowed to build exceed its height. As a results, the city without skyscraper gives people a much cozy and harmonious feeling.

The reflection pool makes this structure with simple design unique and outstanding even in the rain. People give George Washington a lot of credit for his great leadership and contribution to the establishment of the United States of America. I think people should also remember him for his selfish less to give the power away after the taste of power. Looks like very few politicians can do that in history. This in my view really help to institutionalize the smooth transition of power at the very beginning of the formation of the USA which has laid the very important foundation for the establishment of a sustainable democracy.

In addition to all the historical memories, Washington may have more high quality museums than any other cities in the country. This is the National Gallery of Art designed by I M Pei which is one of the 19 museums of the famous Smithsonian Institution in Washington area.

This is the outside and inside views of the Washington Union Station. I use this station a lot when come to Washington. It is a very elegant architecture with lots of historical memories.

As you can see Washington is very different from New York as I introduced to you previously. It is indeed the showcase of power, history, government, and much more. From it, we hope the politicians of today can really learn from the statesman of yesterday,George Washington and Abraham Lincoln, for their genuine caring for people.

彭先生，从您的文章里我想我们又学到了很多。作为社会的一员不论自己成绩大小，为自己的同时，也多为别人考虑，真正关爱他人，关爱社会。

不知道为什么
每次看彭先生拍的一些国外的照片  感觉那边好像总不是那么忙碌
很悠闲  很享受周围的环境
可是在中国随便在哪拍照都很少没人...

在《彭先生图文集锦》中，不记得这是第几篇介绍或涉及异国城市的文章。跟随着他的脚步，我们到了温哥华，迈阿密，伦敦，旧金山，匹兹堡，东京，香港，巴黎，加利弗利亚，纽约，华盛顿，以及国内的一些城市和乡村。每一次的旅行都有一个主题。而几乎每一次体现主题的“文眼”，似乎都是在最后的一段里并不经意的出现。譬如这一篇的：we hope the politicians of today can really learn from the statesman of yesterday,George Washington and Abraham Lincoln, for their genuine caring for people. 最后的这个genuine caring for people（译为“对人民赤诚的爱”），我想是全文中真正最着力的字眼。作为“权力之都”的华盛顿，权力、历史、政府等等在这里得以集中展现，但若失去这个genuine caring for people，则所有这一切都没有太大的意义。

人民相信您，才会赋予您权利，如果烂用职权不为民办事。那么“水能载舟，亦能覆舟”

真正的，赤诚的关爱人民。这种精神，尤其是中国的官员值得深思，现在民众越来越疏远当官的了。对于我们学生，在生活中要关爱他人，我们成不了圣人，但是可以以他们为榜样，“仁者爱人”。

最喜欢林肯那张照片，因为我很喜欢林肯这个人，虽然他很多缺点，但他很伟大。

华盛顿之于美国，只是个很纯粹的政治中心。
但北京之于中国，既是政治中心，又是文化中心，还是北方经济中心。感觉很奇怪
