2012年5月15日，彭定中先生前往青海为嘉里集团郭氏基金会的第13个扶贫基地选址，以下是他想与大家分享的风景和故事。

原文：
Just completed my four-day visit to Qinghai. We have successfully selected our 13th Base there to continue our efforts to address the social problem of uneven distribution of opportunities in China. This is the first time I have the opportunity to set my feet on the top of the Qing Zang Plateau.

译文：
刚刚结束了四天的青海之行。数年来我们一直致力于解决当今社会中存在的机会分布不均的问题，这次前往青海是为了同样的目的，我们在那里成功地选定了我们在中国的第13个脱贫基地。这是我第一次有机会踏足青藏高原。

Under the blue sky and a few strands of white cloud, I suddenly felt that I have grown taller – I felt as if I could touch the sky.

译文：

It is great to be so close to nature.

This is early spring on the plateau. New shoots have just burst out from the trees, while from afar you can still see snow from last winter covering the summit of the mountains. The people and nature have now regained their strengths – all are revitalised and ready for another lively season.

这是高原上的早春。树枝才刚刚吐出新绿，远处的山顶上依然可见去年冬天的积雪。人类和自然界都积攒好了力量，准备迎接新的生机勃勃的季节。

Water obviously is very critical to the livelihood of the people living here in the plateau region of northwestern China. With adequate water, people can cultivate beautiful green arable land and provide a reasonable living condition for their families.

译文：
对于生活在地处大西北高原上的人们来说，很显然，水是他们赖以生存的非常宝贵的资源。有了充足的水，他们才可以开垦出碧绿的田地，为家人创造出适宜居住的生活环境。

We selected the Xunhua (循化) county to be our poverty alleviation base in Qinghai. It is a Salar (撒拉) autonomous county, the only one in China.

As you would expect, the majority of the people in Xunhua are of the Salar ethnicity.

They came to settle here in the Yuan (元) dynasty about 800 years ago from Central Asia. They have intermarried with other ethnic groups, and are Muslim. They are very clean, neat and hardworking people indeed.

Through the years, just like many other ethnic minority groups in the country, the Salar people have developed their own style of building architecture to best suit the local environments.

Their decorated wood carvings are quite refined and beautiful.

They are very religious people, as you can see here a pole of prayer flags at the top of the gate. I was told that the flying of the flags in the wind symbolizes their continuous worship and studies of the mantras through the time.

原文：
This is the origin of the Yellow River. Look at the very pure and clear spring water – from here the Yellow River flows through almost the entire northern China before running into the sea. Along the way, the river will gradually carry more and more soil of this land and eventually turns yellow. This is the "mother river" of China. Under the blue sky and white clouds, it has carried the glories and defeats of this nation for thousands of years. Looks like it will continue to do so in the years to come.

这是黄河的源头。你看这清澈无比的溪水，它从这里出发，几乎要流经整个华北地区，最后进入大海。一路上，它渐渐地从这片土地上带走越来越多的泥沙，直至河水的颜色变成黄色。这就是黄河，中华民族的母亲河。在这片蓝天白云下，这条河流带着这个民族的光荣与梦想，兴衰与成败，几千年来奔腾不息，并将一直这样流淌下去。

看着蓝蓝的天，白白的云，清香惹人的酥油茶，人们脸上特有的高原红，真的很美。让我想起了自己在云南的香格里拉“被称为最接近天堂的地方”那里也有如此美的高原景色，当然还有虔诚的藏族同胞以及酥脆的青稞饼。旅游业的兴起让香格里拉的人们生活越来越好。
在此，也希望循化县的人们也能在基金会的帮助下，找到自己的优势，可持续发展经济，过上幸福的生活，脱离贫困。
