2011年8月10日，彭定中先生前往内蒙古察右中旗视察嘉里集团郭氏基金会在当地的脱贫基地，以下是他想与大家分享的风景和故事。

I made a another visit to Chayou Zhongqi, our Inner Mongolia Base in mid August. Although the summer heat is still everywhere across the rest of the country, you can already begin to feel here that the autumn is very near especially in the early morning and late evening. The autumn can also be noticed from the color of the grass in the vast Mongolia field. It is not as green as that of the mid summer.

8月中旬，我又去了一次我们内蒙古察右中旗的脱贫基地。虽然在中国的绝大部分地区炎炎夏日都还未曾退去，但是在这里，你已经可以感觉到秋天的悄悄接近，特别是在早晨和夜晚，凉凉的秋意已经尤其明显。从大草原的颜色上也可以感觉到秋天的临近。现在的大草原，已经不再像仲夏时节那样的一片碧绿了。

原文：
Looks like the sky is as blue as ever, and the cloud is also as white as ever, but the grass is turning yellow a bit earlier than normal. This has not been a good year as far as the rainfall is concern for Inner Mongolia. I was told that from the accumulated rainfall to date, they may not be able to get the normal average 300mm of rainfall this year.

译文：
看上去，天空还是像以往那般蔚蓝，云朵也还是像以往那般洁白，但是今年草地的变黄比往年提早了一点。就雨水而言，今年对内蒙古来说并不是一个好年头。人们告诉我，截止到目前为止的累积降雨量可能连往常的平均降雨量300毫米都达不到。

For the farmers of our Base, this is a big problem. The field without water, all the crops will stop growing.

" Under Chayou Zhongqi's arid climate with a high degree of evaporation, surface water is extremely scarce. The ground water becomes the only precious source of water for the farmers to obtain to irrigate their land. However, searching for a reliable water source underground has never been an easy task in the dry, cold and windy North. Despite all the difficulties, ground water was successfully identified, ten over 100 meter- deep wells were drilled through the frozen winter. Our project team has achieved what was once considered impossible.

译文：
干燥的气候和蒸发量的巨大，导致地表水在察右中旗非常稀缺。所以地下水成了农民们灌溉用水的唯一来源。但是，在干旱、寒冷且多风的北方，寻找一处可靠的地下水源从来都不是件容易的事。我们的项目组克服了种种困难，成功地甄别出了地下水源。在寒冷的冬天，他们开凿了10口100多米深的井。这些曾经被认为是不可能做到的事，他们做到了。

With the help of the precious water, the farmers have successfully convert the originally arid land into the rich green farmland.

With the help of water, the wheat field can be green and beautiful as well. From what you see here, looks like the harvest time is almost at the corner.

Water has also brought some more sunshine smiles on those farmers' sweet faces. I was happy to hear that they can expect more income and have better lives this year.

译文：
因为有了水，村民们的脸上有了更多灿烂的笑容。听到他们说，他们今年可以得到更好的收入，日子会过得更好一些，我很开心。

As you all know, we don't have unlimited water supply in this world especially in the arid area of the northern China. With that in mind, how to use the minimum water to create the maximum value becomes the most critical task for all of us. As you can see here the farmers in Chayou Zhongqi have used a water-saving irrigation system with the drip irrigation method to save and conserve water with great success.

你们都知道，世界上的水资源是有限的，在干旱的华北地区尤其如此。正因如此，如何用最少的水资源来创造最大的价值，成为我们所有人至关重要的任务。你们可以看到，察右中旗的人们使用的是一种节水型的“滴水灌溉系统”，这样他们成功地节省了很多水。

To really conserve water for not only this generation, but also next generation and generations to come, I think we need to fundamentally change people's mind set on how to not only use water, but also live with water in harmony.

译文：
节水养水，不光是为了当代人，也是为了下一代人，以及更遥远的未来的子子孙孙们。要真正地做到这一点，我想我们需要从根本上转变人们的思想，不仅仅是关于人们应该如何使用水，也关于人们如何和谐地与水相处。

Looking around the world, the most wasteful people are normally the poorest people. The places where suffering most from water shortage are normally the places it wastes most of water. In this country, we have wasted a lot of water in the vast poor rural areas. Because of the water shortage, in the village like this one has lost a lot of population through the years.

译文：
纵观这个世界我们可以发现，通常越是穷人越浪费水。最缺水的地方，通常也是水被浪费得最多的地方。在这个国家广袤的贫穷农村地区，我们已经浪费了很多的水。因为缺水，像照片中的这个村庄，在过去的年月里已经流失了很多人口。

原文：
This year with the additional 1,886 mu of drip irrigated farmland, people in the village began to form a larger scale of organized farming system. They have gradually learn how to better care for and help each other, also very important how to better care for the precious water and live with water in harmony. What I saw during the trip here made me believe that the population left in the past years will move back someday and bring back with them the hope and confidence for the future in this beautiful green grass land.

译文：
今年，因为新增了1886亩安装有“滴水灌溉系统”的土地，人们开始形成了更大规模的组织化的农业系统。人们逐渐地学会如何关心和帮助他人。此外，非常重要的是，他们开始学会如何珍惜宝贵的水资源，以及如何和谐地与水相处。这次内蒙之行中所看到的一切让我有理由相信，在过去的年月所流失的那些人口，有一天他们会回来的。他们会带着希望和信心回到这片美丽的草原，重建家园，安居乐业。

水乃万物之源，看到他们那么缺水，我们已经过很幸福了。

珍惜我们所拥有的水资源！

“通常越是穷人越浪费水。最缺水的地方，通常也是水被浪费得最多的地方。”这句话感触很深，可能是越是穷的地方，人们的意识越落后，所以没有想过节水养水，不仅仅是水，也中国绝大多数资源的一个通病，穷人往往缺少一种节约自然资源的观念。要根治的话真的只能从改变人的思维开始...

其实不仅仅是穷人啊~~
中国很多人都没有这个意识 即使是我们这些大学生 知道水资源缺少
在日常生活中有自觉的去节水的也并不多

很开心基地的绿色因为各种引水工程变多了~节约用水真的需要每个人身体力行

尽管是很多电视节目也在宣传各种“节水”的口号。但是还是有大多数的人还没认识到水的重要性，嘴上喊着“节约”用水。
骨子里没有“节约”用水这概念。要亲身体验或看到才知道水有多么重要。看到彭先生的拍的照片及解说更让我们知道水跟我们的生活息息相关。

I think we need to fundamentally change people's mind set on how to not only use water, but also live with water in harmony.

这是我们该深入思考的问题，要真正的使21世纪成为真正的和谐社会，我们要做的还有很多很多
如何怀揣着一颗敬畏大自然，感恩大自然，回报大自然的心去和大自然和谐相处真的是很重要
如何在行动上做到才是最重要的
自我反省中

        对此，我深有感触。
        从长沙回家，家里干旱了，家里好多的稻谷都死完了，还有很多家的谷子是颗粒无收！自来水也断水了，每天要挑几担水，用水也很紧，不敢乱用，很贵！
        到武汉，我把两个大的桶子用来放洗脸，洗衣的那个用过的水，然后在上厕所的时候，用于冲厕所！在我的号召下，寝室的同学也很乐意这么做。目的只有一个，用最少的资源，做出最大贡献，节约用水。
        当然，我更希望在短期内在很多寝室推广，希望更多的人能够积极响应！我有信心能够推广。

看到第二张图片的时候，很担心~
在往后看到一片片长的很好的麦田时，松了口气~
节约用水很重要，滴水灌溉系统知道一些，很好的提高了水的利用率~
最后祝他们越来越好~

反思一下自己，有时把肆无忌惮的用水当做理所当然！其实每次看到那些照片，都很痛心和震撼，自己想尽一份绵薄之力却总是不能很好的做到。。。。。。
