In the "Spirit of Hong Kong Awards" presentation ceremony last week, I told the audience that we often hear people say, it's not easy to stumble upon good people 好人难寻. This is definitely not true in Hong Kong. As a matter of fact, this is not true in China either.
Recently, through the nomination process of the "Spirit of Hong Kong Awards", within only a few months, we have identified so many good people across HK. Likewise, over the past years working in rural China, we have identified even more good people across the country. Those people's acts of kindness, generosity, perseverance, and their loving and caring hearts have touched many and set great examples for all of us. They are the unsung heroes of the society. 译文：
在上周举行的“香港精神奖”的颁奖典礼上，我在发言中和观众们说到，我们经常听到人们说“好人难寻”，但是在香港，事实绝对不是这样的，其实在整个中国来说，好人也并不难寻。
在最近展开的“香港精神奖”的提名过程中，在短短几个月的时间里，我们就发现了在香港有如此多的好人。同样地，过去几年在中国农村扶贫的工作中，我们在这个国家发现了更多的好人。这些人的善良，慷慨，坚韧，以及对他人的关爱之心，感动了很多的人，他们为我们所有人树立了非常好的榜样。他们是这个社会的无名英雄。  原文：
Like this village teacher, Yang Jishe, who is one of the many "good people" we have identified in mainland China. He was infected with polio when he was four and left him physically challenged. Thanks to his parents' determination - for years they carried him to school through the mountains - his life has been changed totally.
In the past 20 odd years,Yang has been teaching at a primary school in the mountain. Despite his physical challenges, year after year he stands fast as a dedicated teacher and treats his students like his own children. With all the hardships he has to overcome, he doesn't have a word of complaint. He is always grateful to his own teacher who taught him how to care for one's students and contribute to the society. His loving and caring heart has indeed touched all of us.译文：
这位名叫杨继设的乡村教师，是我们在中国大陆发现的众多“好人”中的一个。杨继设在四岁的时候患过小儿麻痹症，从此在生理上留下终身残疾。因为父母坚持要让儿子上学——他们曾经多年来穿行山路背着儿子去学校——杨继设的人生得到彻底的改变。
在过去的二十多年，杨继设一直在一所乡村小学里执教。尽管身怀残疾，一年又一年，杨继设始终坚守在教师的岗位上，默默奉献，爱生如子。他克服了所有的艰难困苦，从来没有一句怨言。他一直对自己的启蒙老师心怀感激——是他教会了杨继设要爱自己的学生，服务于社会。杨继设的爱心事迹，让我们所有人都深受感动。  原文：
Like this beautician in Hong Kong, Law Chunheung 羅春香, who decided to start something on her own after visiting a friend in a hospital in HK. She noticed that the elderly patients around her had long toenails. She was also saddened by how downbeat some of the old patients looked. So she asked if they would like to have a haircut, a trim, a shave, toenail clipping or a facial, for free. They happily agreed.
Now, at the age of 62, on every second Thursday of the month, beautician Chunheung would still bring her pair of scissors and an electric shaver to the hospital to cheer up the elderly patients. 27 years since her first visit, she is still bringing smiles to those elderly patients on their faces. Through her love and care, patients regain their dignity and confidence, and very importantly, their happiness. She is indeed one of the many "good people" of this society.译文：

I think that all those "good people" have one thing in common - perseverance. They have touched so many people's hearts not because of their money, but instead, because of their dedicating time to do simple things persistently with a loving and caring heart. Money is less an important factor here - these people have demonstrated that all it takes are the commitment and loving hearts, which would help change people's mindset and make the world a better place.译文：

Today we have identified about 400 loving and caring role models, the "good people", across the country. They are just like the small candles located at the corners of the room. Their lights have already warmed the hearts and shined the lives of people surrounding them. What we are trying to do is just to move those candles to the center of the room, and make their flames brighter and stronger so they can warm more hearts and shine more lives in the society.
At the end of the day, it is not so difficult to stumble upon "good people" 好人並不难寻. With that, we believe if we can find a way to better connect and integrate these many loving and caring role models across the country, it may help to build a stronger force of positive energy to eventually overcome the seemingly negative energy propagated in the society today.

现在我们在全国范围内已经选出了大约400位爱心代表，他们都是这个社会中的“好人”。他们就像处在房间角落里的小小蜡烛，用它们的光和热，温暖了他们身边人们的心灵，照亮了他们的人生。我们正在努力去做的，就是把这些蜡烛移到房间的中间去，让它们的火焰更加明亮、燃得更加旺盛，这样它们就可以在社会中温暖更多人的心灵，照亮更多人的人生。
最终来说，好人并不难寻。所以，我们相信，如果我们可以想办法让这些遍布全国的爱心代表们更好地联合起来成为一个整体，那就有可能有助于形成一股更强大的“正能量”，最终这些“正能量”将会打败那些看似正在当今社会作为主流被传播的“负能量”，从而让这个社会变得越来越好。
