2013年10月，彭定中先生在上海进行项目考察，以下是他和我们的分享。

原文：
In the past years, our work in helping the poor farmers in rural China gave us the opportunity to witness rural-urban migration of many peasants and the associated social problems. In 2011, for the first time, there were more people living in the urban areas than that of the rural areas of China. Through the years, according to government's policy, without 户籍, the migrant workers would not be able to enjoy similar level of social benefits as that of the urban residents, including the most important educational and medical services for their families.

To help the children of the migrant workers, in 2008 we started our first project for these children in Shanghai. With a bit of our and the society's help, we hope that those less privileged children of the migrant workers would become the future contributors instead of liabilities to the society. Today, in addition to 上海, we have also expanded the programs to the cities of 北京，廣州，and 成都。

译文：
在过去的几年里，我们在中国的农村地区帮助贫穷的农民们脱贫致富，故此有机会见证了中国的农民从农村进入城市的过程，以及随之而产生的一系列社会问题。2011年，中国的城市常住人口首次超过了农村常住人口。但与此同时也存在着另一个事实——这些年来，因为政府的户籍制度，没有城市户口的外来务工人员以及他们的家人并不能够在诸如最重要的教育、医疗等方面和城市居民享有同样的社会福利。

为了帮助外来工的孩子们，2008年，我们在上海发起了我们的第一个外来工子女教育项目。我们希望在我们以及社会的一些帮助下，这些在城市里没有得到公平机会的孩子们，有一天会变成社会的贡献者，而不是社会的负担。现在，除了上海，我们也在北京、广州和成都开展了针对外来工子女的教育项目。

Recently I came back to 上海 to spend a bit of time with my foundation colleagues, our partners and the local government officials to review the progress and the effectiveness of what we have done in the past 5 years to help those underprivileged children of the migrant workers. Sitting there in the classroom, watching my colleagues standing there talking to the children with great passion, and caring and loving hearts, it gave me great confidence that, in time, our persistent efforts will make positive impacts on those children.

译文：
最近我回到上海，和嘉里郭氏基金会的同事们、合作伙伴以及当地的政府官员们回顾这五年来我们在外来工子女教育项目上的进展和效果。坐在教室里，看着我的同事们站在讲台上满怀激情和爱心地和孩子们沟通，我得到了很多信心。我相信，通过我们不断的努力，我们会在这些孩子们身上产生积极的影响和变化。

Looking at those brilliant young faces, I believe they will have the opportunity to be as good as any other kids of this city, and one day in the future they will become the contributors and leaders of this society.
