If you visit 四川綿竹 for the first time today, it would be very difficult for you to imagine what happened exactly here five years ago. The huge tragic 汶川 earthquake of 2008 had demolished almost all the buildings on this land.

译文：
如果你现在是第一次造访四川绵竹，你会无法想象五年前这里发生过的一切。2008年，汶川发生灾难性特大地震，摧毁了这片土地上几乎所有建筑物。

Today what you see in 綿竹 are the newly rebuilt comfortable farm houses.

译文：

Also, you can see the broad street and the beautiful office of the village committee.

To take care of the children of the migrant workers 留守兒童, there are special programs to address the special needs of those children.

These are the paintings of the 留守兒童，a generation growing up without the love of their fathers and mothers. From those paintings ,can we understand what they are thinking, and how can we address their needs?

这些留守儿童是在缺乏父母关爱的环境中长大的。看看他们的一些绘画作品，我们能进入孩子们的内心世界，晓得怎样去满足他们的需要吗？

原文：
As you know we have helped to build about 2000 new houses for the villagers after the earthquake in 綿竹. On top of that, we have also helped to enhance their capabilities, like developing this farmers’co-operative for the high value agriculture products, so that they can create better wealth for themselves and others.

译文：
地震发生后，我们除了帮助绵竹村民重建约2000所抗震新房子，也帮助他们提升自身的能力，譬如说组织村民们成立一个农业合作社，共同发展较高经济价值的农作物。这样他们就可以为自己，以及为他人创造更多财富。

原文：
In the past few years, in addition to the work done in the model villages 示範村, we have also identified some caring and loving role models 愛心代表 to help them spread their caring and loving hearts to the people and communities surrounding them, so that they can generate more positive energy in the society.

Like this caring country doctor, with our help he has helped many of his poor patients through a simple project.

译文：

过去几年，我们一边在示范村里落实改变，一边在县的各地评选爱心人士作为我们的爱心代表，帮助他们向身边的人传递爱心，令社会的正能量生生不息。

图中这位爱心村医，在我们的帮助下，开展了一个简单但帮助了很多贫穷病人的项目。

Dr. 張's simple project is called the project of " one single pig 一頭豬＂. He raised one mother pig, and the mother pig gave birth to many baby pigs, then he gave the baby pigs to many of his patients, then they would replicate the process and give their baby pigs to many others in need. With that the caring and loving hearts quickly spreads. The projects of this kind help us to see there are many people with kind hearts in the society. It has also given us confidence that the world can be a better place because there are many ordinary people doing some small ordinary things and make small changes each day. The cumulation of those small changes makes the world a better place for us and our children.

译文：
张医生发起的小项目叫做“一头猪”。张医生养了一头母猪，母猪生了很多小猪，然后他就把小猪们送给很多他医治的贫困的人。这些病人会像张医生那样，把小猪们生下的后代送给其他需要的人。年复一年，爱心迅速地扩散，点燃了更多人的爱心。像这样的项目，让我们体会到这个社会上确实有很多具有爱心的人。就是许多这些平凡人通过点点滴滴的小事情，每天小小的改变最终积水成潭，为了自己，也为了后代，带来更加美好的世界。

This was the picture I took for the 綿竹新龍村 village management committee 村委會 in front of their post earthquake temporary office in June 2008, one month after the 汶川 earthquake.

译文：
这是2008年6月，就是汶川地震一个月后，我和绵竹新龙村的村委会在他们的临时办公室前合影。

原文：
We had a meeting with the committee members on how to help them to rebuild their lives after that huge tragic earthquake. It was during that meeting the village head told me with tears that the Chinese peasants had very sad lives. They work very hard all their lives just for 兩个子，房子and 孩子. The tragic 汶川 earthquake took both away from them. None of us could stop the tears flowing out from our eyes either.

译文：
我们和村委会商讨如何帮助村民们在灾后重建生命。就是在这次会议中，村委会的负责人含泪告诉我，中国的农民真的很苦。他们一辈子辛辛苦苦，就是为了“两个子”——房子和孩子。但是汶川地震一下子把他们的这两个“子”都夺去了。听到这里，我们所有在场的人无不心酸落泪。

原文：
This is how the committee members look like in front of their beautiful 村委會 office today.
They have certainly stood up from that tragic earthquake of 2008. They have rebuilt their lives with new confidence and hope for a brighter life in the future.

译文：
今天，村委会在他们漂亮的办公室前合影。毫无疑问，这里的人民已经从2008年的那场灾难中站了起来。他们带着新的希望，满怀着信心，重建起新的生命。

原文：
I am thinking that through all the efforts we have made in the past five years, what we eventually really leave behind us will not be the new buildings, new roads, or new bridges we helped to build after the earthquake. It will be the caring and loving hearts of my 綿竹colleagues in this picture, they did and will continue to generate and spread the "positive energy" for the society for the years to come.

译文：
我在想，在过去的五年里，我们很努力地推动改变。最终我们真真正正能够留下的，不会是这些新建的房子，新修的马路，或者是新架的桥梁。而我们真真正正能够留下的，将会是照片里的绵竹基地同事们的关爱之心。在过去的五年里，他们一直在用爱心创造和传播着“正能量”。在接下来的日子里，他们会一如继往地带着爱心，传播着“正能量”，继续前行。
