下面是彭定中先生2013年5月30日在《南华早报》110周年庆典上的致辞，与大家分享。
Honourable Chief Executive CY Leung, Ambassadors and Supporters of Celebrating Hong Kong, Ladies and Gentlemen：
尊敬的梁振英特首，“香港加油”活动的形象大使和支持者们，女士们、先生们：
Thank you all for joining us tonight. It is my great honour to share with you some words on this occasion and specifically, the motivation behind Celebrating Hong Kong.
感谢大家今晚的光临。很荣幸可以在今天这个场合和大家分享一点我的看法，尤其是和大家谈谈我们发起“香港加油”这个活动的初衷与愿景。
When you reach 110 years old, I hope you all will, as the South China Morning Post does on November 6th this year, it’s only normal to start reflecting on the past.
当各位到达110岁高龄的时候——我希望你们都能等到那一天——《南华早报》的110岁生日是在今年的11月6日——开始回忆过去再正常不过。
But if you are here tonight, chances are you share our desire to focus not just on our past, but also about our present, and our future.
但是，如果各位出席了今晚的这个活动，很可能你们是和我们怀着同样的热情——我们不只是关注过去，也关注当下，以及未来。
You’re here because you believe, as we do, that the future of Hong Kong should be, and shall be great. We have met and talked to many of you in this room, we are grateful for the tremendous support you’ve given us to push ahead with this initiative.
各位之所以出席今晚的活动，是因为你们和我们一样——我们都相信香港的明天会更加美好。我们和在座的很多来宾都当面交谈过。对于各位在此次活动中给予我们的鼎力支持，我们表示由衷的感谢。
The South China Morning Post was born in this city 110 years ago. We’ve seen good and not so good times, sickness and health, war and peace, poverty and prosperity. Throughout it all, we have always loved our home, and have watched it grow from strength to strength, one day at a time.
一百一十年前，《南华早报》在这个城市里诞生。我们经历过好日子，也经历过坏日子；我们经历过疾病，也经历过健康；我们经历过战争，也经历过和平；我们经历过贫穷，也经历过繁荣。自始至终，我们热爱着我们的家园，我们看着她日益昌盛，日复一日，年复一年。
So it’s only fitting that in the 110th year of our journey, celebration is not of us, but of Hong Kong.
所以，这个诞辰110周年的庆祝活动并不是属于我们《南华早报》，而是属于香港这个城市。
As a newspaper of record for Hong Kong, we know things that deviate from the status quo make for news. Usually no news is good news – scandals, disasters and such are more newsworthy,and it’s rare to get a chance to focus on the positives, the stuff that makes Hong Kong great. It is perhaps timely to focus a measure of our energy on the positives around us in “Celebrating Hong Kong”.
作为见证和记录香港历史的一份报纸，我们知道，超出常态的事件能够成为新闻。通常来说，没有消息就是好消息——丑闻，灾难，诸如此类的事件会更具新闻价值。而那些正面的、对香港发展有利的消息，被报道的机会则会少得多。现在，我们通过举办“香港加油”这个活动，来凝聚和传播我们身边的正能量，也许真的是适时而为的一件事。
As part of this celebration, South China Morning Post will regularly feature stories that express our appreciation, and uncover good news stories for the year ahead. Over both online and in print,we’ll be sharing with readers here and around the world, insights into what makes Hong Kong great.
作为“香港加油”的一部分，《南华早报》会在今年接下来的时间里定期刊载一些触动人心的故事，来表达我们的感激之情。我们会通过在线报道和纸质媒介两种方式，和香港本土以及全世界的读者们分享那些为香港发展作出过积极贡献的人和事。
And to take the spirit of positive thinking and celebration to the broadest audience, we’re inviting you, our partners and ambassadors, to join hands with us to make an impact on people within our respective spheres of influence.
为了在尽可能大的范围里把这些正能量传递给我们的读者，我们邀请在座的各位担任我们的合作伙伴，以及形象大使。让我们一起携手，发挥我们每个人的影响力，来为这个活动贡献一份力量。
We have developed five initiatives for supporting Celebrating Hong Kong that need your support: The Ambassador Programme, theCharity Auction, The Partners Programme, the Redefining Hong Kong Debate Series and the Spirit of Hong Kong Awards.
为了成功举办此次“香港加油”的活动，我们一共发起了五个项目，它们分别是：形象大使计划，慈善拍卖会，合伙人计划，“重塑香港”系列辩论会，“香港精神”评选与颁奖。这些项目都需要大家的支持。
The Ambassador programme is already starting to build momentum. We have industry leaders, leading academics, and HongKongers from different walks of life, to help us by helping to lend perspectives and leadership to the Celebrating Hong Kong message.
为了给“香港加油”壮大声势，我们的“形象大使”计划已经率先启动。我们的形象大使有来自产业界的商业精英与领袖，有来自顶尖学府的专家学者，以及来自各行各业的香港人。我们的形象大使将用他们的宝贵观点和卓越领导力，来为“香港加油” 出策献力，提供帮助和支持。
Tonight we will hear from our distinguished Ambassador, Sir David Akers Jones, former Acting Governor of Hong Kong, also one of our business sector Ambassadors, Benjamin Hung, CEO of Standard Chartered Bank, and our youngest Ambassador, Kenny Lau, already an accomplished artist at the tender age of 7.
今晚，我们邀请到了我们的几位形象大使为大家发表演说。他们是尊贵的的前任署理香港总督钟逸杰爵士；以及我们商务方面的一位形象大使，渣打银行(香港)有限公司行政总裁洪丕正先生；还有我们最年轻的形象大使，年仅七岁就已成为知名艺术家的刘见之小朋友。
The second initiative is our Charity Auction. We will be engaging artists and designers both locally and internationally to donate pieces that encapsulate the spirit of Hong Kong to raise funds for the poor and the elderly over the course of the year, and we appreciate if very much that Sotheby’s – our sponsoring venue partner tonight, will also host the auction in early 2014.
我们发起的第二个项目是我们的“慈善拍卖会”。我们会吸引和号召来自香港本土以及全世界的艺术家和设计师们捐献出他们弘扬香港精神的有关作品，来为贫穷人士和老年人筹集善款。拍品征集将会持续至今年年底。拍卖会将于2014年年初由苏富比拍卖行举办。苏富比也是今晚这场活动的场地赞助方。我们向他们表示由衷的感谢。
Our third initiative is the Partners Programme. We invite partners to help us spread the word wider. We’re proud and delighted to announce support from MTR, G2000, Lane Crawford, Agnes B,Chow Tai Fook, DHL, Standard Chartered Bank, Sotheby’s, Cathay Pacific, Jaeger Lecoultre, Hang Seng Bank, PwC and Ecovision amongst a pipeline of many esteem institutions to help support Celebrating Hong Kong. In such good company, we shall make a difference.
我们发起的第三个项目是“合伙人计划”。我们邀请很多的合作伙伴来帮我们传播“香港加油”的信息。在此我们很自豪，也很高兴地宣布，已有如下机构加入了我们的“合伙人计划”，它们是：香港铁路有限公司，纵横二千有限公司，连卡佛，阿尼亚斯贝，周大福，DHL，渣打银行，苏富比拍卖行，国泰航空，积家，恒生银行，普华永道，Ecovision，等等一系列的机构。在如此优秀的合作伙伴们的支持下，我们一定会为香港的发展做出一点成绩。
In the pursuit of constructive discourse on helping Hong Kong’s future, South China Morning Post will also host six debates called the Redefining Hong Kong Debate Series. These lunch time debates will be co-hosted and by industry experts and Celebrating Hong Kong Ambassadors, and will cover a range of topics most pertinent to our future, from improving our city’s livability, to constructing greater competitiveness and opportunities for growth. I’d like to thank DHL for being our first official sponsor for the debate series.
为了给香港的发展献言献策，《南华早报》将举办六场名为“重塑香港”的系列辩论会。这六场午间辩论会将由一些行业专家和“香港加油”的形象大使们联合主持。辩论会将涵盖和香港发展最息息相关的一些主题，从如何提高城市的宜居度，到如何创造更好的竞争力和发展机会，等等。在此我想特别感谢DHL公司，他们是此次系列辩论会的第一家官方赞助商。“重塑香港”系列辩论会是我们为“香港加油”发起的第四个项目。
And finally, the Spirit of Hong Kong Awards. These awards are designed to recognize the unsung heroes in our midst. Over the course of the next few months, through our Hong Kong Heartbeat editorial series, we’ll be uncovering stories of amazing individuals for their exemplary acts of kindness, generosity, dedication, charity or personal achievements. We are privileged that an esteemed panel of judges chaired by Sir David Akers Jones will select and decide on winners toward end of this year.
最后，是“香港精神”的评选与颁奖。这些奖项会让我们认识到我们身边的那些无名英雄，那些曾为香港发展作出奉献，并在逆境下取得成功的普通香港人。在接下来的几个月里，我们会通过《香港脉搏》系列专栏来报道很多触动人心的典型事例，讲述那些平凡大众的善良，慷慨，无私，慈善行为，以及个人成就。我们有幸邀请到了钟逸杰爵士来主持“香港精神”奖项的评委会。评委会将在今年年底评选出各个奖项的得主。
Ladies and gentlemen, once again, let me thank you for spending time with us this evening. Your presence and support mean a great deal to us. Let us join our hands and hearts together in Celebrating Hong Kong. This is our city, our home and our responsibility, and South China Morning Post is proud to be part of it.
