My Days Waiting In New York

Arrived New York one chilly night from San Francisco. The Christmas and New Year holidays have long passed, yet the street decorations are still here to welcome me. However, my visit to NY this time is not for holidays. I am here to see a few doctors and take some medical tests.

Got up early in the morning. Looks like this is going to be a cold, windy, but beautiful day in NY. This is the first time I saw the sun rise from the east of Manhattan Island.

Look to the west side of Manhattan, and you can see the Hudson River. Farther north there is the George Washington Bridge over the Hudson River, connecting Manhattan and the State of New Jersey.

As you would expect, seeing doctors and going through all the tests and examinations in the hospital took some time. It also took lots of patience in waiting for test results and doctor's appointments. Looking out not far there is the beautiful NY Central Park. I therefore spent quite a lot of spare time walking in the park and the neighborhood on those waiting days in NY.

We should give lots of credits to the people who developed the city plan for NY hundreds of years ago. They had the vision and foresight to reserve such a huge piece of land at the very center of the city. This precious space is off-limits to future commercial development, and will be kept for future generations of New Yorkers to enjoy the greenery and refreshing breath in the middle of the
skyscrapers jungle.

Even today, Central Park is still one of the most popular places in NY for morning exercise.

Watching those children play ice hockey Sunday morning, I wonder Central Park may also be a great place for NY to develop some good future ice hockey players.

The elegant bridge's reflection on the surface of the winter lake, not even a single wrinkle.

On this cold winter morning, this lonely old man's jazz music may help sooth some of the lonely hearts in this crowed and busy city.

To the west of the park, this is the home of the famous Metropolitan Opera at Lincoln Center.

A few blocks from the Lincoln Center is the American Broadcast Company. The news broadcasters were preparing for the ABC evening news.

At the south end of the park alongside the Fifth Avenue, you can see the Plaza Hotel, one of the hotels with very long history and good reputation in NY.

Just outside of the hotel, you can hire this chariot for a leisure tour around the park or local streets. I imagine the tour should be quite romantic especially in the evening.

Since I had plenty of time while waiting for the medical results, I decided to take a walk along the south of 5th Avenue for a bit of window shopping.

The window dressing along the 5th Avenue in NY is truly first-class. It pleases both your eyes as well as your hearts, even if you cannot afford to buy any of the displayed items.

Before I knew it, I had walked about 30 street blocks, through the Rockefeller Center, then arriving at Time Square. This is where you see the crowd counting down on New Year's eve.

After the "long march" of the day, I was a bit tired. Decided to take the NY subway back.

New York's night is as beautiful and exciting as ever. However, I was very anxious, and would like to end the days of waiting here sooner. I missed my own bed at home .
