下面我和大家分享一些我在工作中的体会，也许你们会觉得我是自认为做得不错，是在炫耀自己，或者诸如此类。我没有任何这方面的意图。我是希望我的经验或多或少能给同学们一点帮助，或者说启示，以及借鉴，所以我和你们做这些分享。我也希望你们让我分享你们生活、学习、工作中的种种美好或不幸，让我从你们身上学到一些东西，以及帮你们分析一些问题。我很想看到我们的每个同学都来做这件事，那么这个家庭会真正成为一个充满温暖、令人留恋的家庭。
也很想看到你们给我提出种种建议，包括对我的批评。
事实上我也一直希望分享到更多关于彭先生的故事（不论是他自己说出，或是来自于他人的叙述）。这个人太值得我们学习了。如果有机会让我们一览这个人的人生经历，我相信那是一笔无法计数的财富。
我和彭先生至今未见过面，我们一直是以电话、电子邮件的方式来保持联系。所有我对于他的认识，是通过网站等媒体获得一些信息，以及从彭丽明女士、其他同学口中听到的一些故事来构成，当然彭先生自己也会经常和我交流一些他对于事物的看法。通过这些认识，我认为这个人真的很好，是这个时代最优秀、最可敬的人之一。这些并不是因为他的财富和成功，而是因为另一些更重要的理由。如果你们有心，你们可以发现出来。
人生中我们有无数次的机会和无数的人相识或者相处，但最终在我们生活中扮演最重要角色的就是那么几位或十几位。我长大到今天，自认为真正学会了一件事就是懂得珍惜——懂得要珍惜那些应该珍惜的人和事。
还是那句话，如果你们有心，你们可以发现很多东西；然后你们去学会它，最后你们也会成为很好很好的人。
7月14日我开始在呼和浩特香格里拉大酒店上班，职位是Events Coordinator（宴会及会议统筹协调员）。我们的总经理是一位美国人，50多岁，很有活力且和蔼可亲。因为想快些学会新东西，我自觉承担很多工作，所以工作时间比较长，有几次总经理在晚上8点还见到我在办公室做事（他上班时会穿着正装在酒店里到处“巡视”，下班后，有时也会着便装抱着8个月大的儿子在酒店里到处走走看看），所以他就找我的直接上司Director of Event Management(宴会及会议统筹部总监)Eric谈了话，希望Eric注意缩短我的工作时间，不要让我累坏了。
Eric是一个大个子的新加坡人，快三十多岁了，但是颇有些大男孩的性格，淘气里带着对人的关心。他也是一个很好的人。他知道我们coordinator总是要加班（级别高一些的经理们总是把事情交给我们做），而他总是禁止我们加班，“Coordinator们要注意，今天7:30之后我不要见到任何一个人还留在办公室！”经常可以听到他恶狠狠地对我们说这句话。可是没有办法，有时工作太多了，我们是不能那么早就就下班的。
他曾经如此威胁另一位coordinator：XXX，如果你还这样加班下去，我就扣你工资。现在他用来威胁我的是另外一句话了：我会把这个情况写进你的assessement（工作评估）里去，意思是说我不会很好地管理自己的时间，所以导致工作时间很长。
当然他的话也很有道理。
因为总经理找Eric谈了话，所以Eric也开始觉得情况有一点“严重”了，所以他就找我谈话。“……”他把总经理和他谈话的事情跟我说了，然后很认真地看着我，说，“所以，你以后就别再……”，“别再折磨自己了？”“是别再折磨我了”，他说。
因为已经引起总经理的关心和担心，我觉得有必要向他们表明自己的态度，所以我就给总经理写了一个邮件，全文如下：
Dear Mr. XXXXX,
Please excuse the liberty I take of sending you this email.
Eric talked with me about my long working hour several days ago. I do appreciate your concern and kindness. Maybe it’s somewhat difficult for me to express myself clearly in English, but I will have a try.
Eric is a nice leader, he always says that he forbids Ken and me to stay in the office after 7 P.M., and I know that he does hope to see that we leave the office earlier, just like you do.
But I should let both you and Eric know that I work hard not only for the hotel, but also for myself. I am not typing some conventional phrases. I do understand the true meaning of these words.
I have the confidence to make a successful career at Shangri-La, the premise is that I work hard, put things right, and so on. So I am really happy even though I have to work overtime, as I know that benefits me. If I work for eleven hours a day, six days a week (I always come to the office at weekends), I can grasp some skills within three months, and that may cost those who work for eight hours a day, five days a week half a year. That’s why I have been working overtime and never complain about it.
Another reason is that I am from Hunan, I haven’t got any family or close friends here in Huhhot. If I leave the office earlier, I prefer to spend my time in reading, seeing English films with my laptop (to improve my English), etc, all of them are also for learning. So, if I need to learn lots of stuff for the job, I would like to spend most of my spare time in it. It is such a situation at present.
So if you see me stay at the office at nine P.M., you should get the idea that it’s a normal a day for Teddy, the boy is just learning some new stuff and everything is just going well. But if you see me still stay at the office at ten or eleven, then you can get the idea today is a busy day for the boy. But don’t worry, he will make it, and Eric will always take care of him, as I do understand that I am working for myself.
Anyway, please rest assured that I am doing fine, and I am sure I will decrease my working hour week by week.
In my opinion, Eric is a nice man with the character of a lovely boy (sometimes it is that), but he does care for his underlings. I am glad to work with such a leader. And, I am also very glad to have the opportunity to work for you. I felt your energy (I am afraid ENERGY is not the best wording here, but I just can’t find the right one) and kindness when I first meet you. And you are also a hardworking BOSS, we are here for the same goal.

第二天上午，总经理不声不响地走到我的办公桌边同我握手。"Teddy, thanks for your email"，然后他说，今天晚上有时间的话，他想同我单独谈谈，并且说，从今以后，你我之间就只用英文交流了——这是因为他从我的邮件中看出，我一直把提高英语当作自我提高的一个主要内容，所以他想用这种方式来给我一些帮助。以前我同他谈话时有时用英文，有时用中文。他中文很流利，但是只会说，不会读，即不识汉字——当然他是用英文说出这些话的，我看得出来他的高兴和诚恳。我答道，I appreciate your kindness。但是下午我并没有收到他找我谈话的通知，也许是快下班时他找过我，但那时我去员工餐厅吃饭所以错过了。于是在第三天上午，我收到了他的回信。全文如下：
Dear Teddy,
Thank you for your email and your very honest expression.
I very much appreciate the dedication and hard work you have brought to the job. You have made a very good first impression on me, on Eric, and on the team in our hotel. My concern for your long working hours is only to make sure that you get enough rest and some relaxation.
A person's health is most important, then family and finally, career.
But having said that, I do understand your desire to learn as much and as quickly as you can. I fully support you in this, and look forward to supporting you and your career growth with Shangri-la. When just starting to build my career and future with the company, I was much like you. In fact, I once worked an entire year without taking a day off. So I understand your drive and your "energy".
So in the future, if I see you still in the office at 9pm or on the weekends, I will not worry. Please just promise yourself and me that you will take care of your health and your rest.
Thank you for your kind words about my "energy and kindness". I very much believe in the power of personal involvement with my colleagues and co-workers, that is my team. Together, we succeed, working at cross purposes, or without communication, cooperation and care, we will fail to achieve all of our goals. Care, Communication, and Cooperation are my three "C's" to guide my work.

今天太晚了，明天星期六我休息，我会把两个邮件都翻译成中文。还是想说那句话，如果你有心去做一件事，别人是一定可以明白你的心的，不论你的能力、性格等各方面如何。我在呼和浩特香格里拉大酒店上班才1个月加1个星期的时间，但是正如我们总经理所说，You have made a very good first impression on me, on Eric, and on the team in our hotel（你给我，给Eric（我的直接上司），以及整个酒店的同事们都留下了很好的第一印象）。我想最主要的原因是，我是在用心去工作。
同样道理，如果你没有心去做一件事情，别人也是一定会明白的。心是不可以假装出来的。
