标题译作：Early autumn on the grasslands (2015, August in Inner Mongolia, Chayou Zhongqi)
原文：立秋之后再次回到内蒙古，察哈尔右翼中旗，这是我第四次来到内蒙古草原，在初秋的阳光下，草原的麦田到了可以收成的时节，散发出一片闪亮的金黄色光芒。
译文：Autumn just started when I went on a trip to Inner Mongolia again to visit our Chayou Zhongqi poverty alleviation base. This is my 4th visit to Inner Mongolian grassland.Under the autumn sun, ripen wheat fields shone with a golden radiance.
原文：在碧蓝的天空中飘着朵朵白云，刚刚由城市里走出来，让我们觉得我们走进了一个人间仙境。
译文：Coming from the city, we felt as if we had walked into a wonderland where mellow white clouds floated in blue sky.
 
原文：在如画的自然环境中，察右中旗是个半农半牧的国家级贫困県/旗，五年来我们一直设法帮助这里的农民，牧民如何过上一个更好的生活。
译文：Situated in this picturesque natural environment, Chayou Zhongqi is a state-level poverty-stricken county with dual emphases on farming and animal husbandry. In the past five years, we have been working to help the farmers and herdsmen here to live a better life.
  
原文：这次到中旗，下访了不少村落，也见到了很多村民，除了村容村貌的改变之外更叫我值得欣慰的是村民们的精神面貌和上次来也都有很大的改变。在他们纯朴的笑脸上让我感觉到他们对他们的将来有了更多的信心和更大的希望。
译文：We went to quite a lot of villages and met with many villagers this time. I was glad to see not only obvious improvement in village environment, but also spiritual uplift among villagers. Their pure smiles told me they had grown much more confident and hopeful about future.
原文：记得 2010 年第一次造访内蒙古草原，很快的认识到水是当地最需要也是最匮乏的资源。每年不到300mm 的降雨量，一直是这儿人们生活上的最大困扰。
译文：Recalling my first visit to the grassland herein 2010, water shortage was the most serious problem. With less than 300mm rainfall each year, the lack of water resource had posted the greatest challenge to people’s livelihood.
原文：那年三道沟村适逢七年大旱，人畜饮水都相当困难，更不用说农田灌溉用水，大部分年青力壮的外出打工谋生，村里老弱病残留守者，靠国家政策性补贴维持生活。
译文：That year, Sandaogou Village was faced with the most severe drought in seven years. Drinking water for human and animal was very much in shortage, not to mention water for irrigation. As a result, many young villagers left their hometown to seek opportunities elsewhere, leaving behind only the old, weak, and disabled ones living off government’s subsidies.
原文：由于地面水的严重缺乏，为了设法解决村民的及时需求，如何把旱地变为水浇地，打井取水成为帮助农民谋生的唯一途径。
译文：There was a severe lack of surface water. To address villagers’ immediate needs, drilling water wells had become the only way to turn dry lands into irrigated lands.
原文：但由于取水过度，这些年来地下水的水位也有所不断下降，节水养水的思维，行为的建立与推广至关紧要。我们开展了一系列节水养水知识的专题培训，村民们也开始共同制定出一套节水养水的管理办法，进而付诸实施。
译文：Underground water level has been declining due to water exhaustion. It is crucial to build up and spread the water conservation mindset and behaviors. We rolled out a series of water conservation training and soon afterwards villagers have started to build up a set of water conservation and management mechanisms to be implemented locally.
原文：我们帮助村民引进了马铃薯膜下滴灌的节水种植技术，提高了土豆产量，也大大的减少了灌溉用水量。这次到访草原上的三道沟村，东油坊村，及二股地村，看到这几年大力推展的节水养水工作初见成效。
译文：We helped introduce a water-saving drip irrigation technology to improve potato production. This greatly reduced the irrigation water needed. This time when we visited Sandaogou Village, Dongyoufang Village, and Ergudi Village, we could see our work bear fruits.
原文：有了水，村民们开始时种土豆（马铃薯），
译文：With irrigation water, villagers planted potatoes in the beginning.
原文：这几年也开始大面积的种葵花，更髙值的产品，也更增加了农民的收入。
译文：These years they have expanded to sunflower plantation, which is of higher value and increases farmers’ earnings.
原文：除了农民在种植上取得的成就，草原上的牧民们在养殖上也有很多的进展。他们在养殖技术上也都有更好的掌握，对于防疫的知识也得到大大的提高，因而他们对养殖规模的成长扩大也比以前更有信心。
译文：While farmers are making progress with their plantations, the herdsmen on grassland are also moving forward with their animal husbandry business. Herdsmen’s husbandry techniques are improving, particularly on disease-prevention,therefore a great boost to their confidence in expanding the husbandry scale.
 
原文：我们大概在四年前开始建立的产业示范园也形成了规模，看到了成效。它成为培养村民的大学校，它不但帮助提高村民的能力，更重要的提升了村民的素质。
译文：The demonstration farm that we helped started about 4 years ago has also come into shape and started to bear fruits. It has become a huge school to develop villagers, in terms of techniques, as well as overall quality.
          
原文：他们从示范园回去以后，我们帮助他们组建合作社，因此他们能把在示范园学到的知识和经验用合作社的平台来为自己创造机会，安身；更重要的，他们也能用学到的知识和经验来帮助别人创造机会，立命，因而大家能一起建立一个有规范有公德的公平，和谐社会。
译文：As they left the demonstration farm for home, we help them to form farmers’ cooperatives, so that they can apply the knowledge and experience they have learned in the demonstration farm using the platform of farmers’ cooperatives to create opportunities for themselves. That’s to make a living (安身); more importantly, they can also use the knowledge and experience gained to help others create opportunities –to make others’ life brighter (立命). With that, we can together build a ride-abiding, caring, fair and harmonious society.
原文：这样几年下来，村民们也逐渐建立起对将来的信心与希望。就像这位几年前到城市去寻找机会的年轻人，看到家乡的变化而决定回到草原。他的回乡成功创业给更多的离郷年轻人建立了一个在城镇化的过程中人囗可以回流的榜样。
译文：These years,the villagers also have gradually increased their confidence and hope for the future. Like this young villager, who went to the city to look for opportunities a few years ago, has returned to his home village after witnessing the changes here. In this age of urbanization, his return and subsequent successful entrepreneurial endeavors has demonstrated a viable example of repatriation from the city back to the rural.
原文：回来的路上，在草原初秋的黄昏里，看到两旁的麦田都已经收割完毕，我想我们和草原上那些勤劳朴实的人们一样，在这片土地上, 我们没有留下我们的名字，我们留下的只是汗水和一些札实的脚印。
译文：On our way back, in this autumn evening on the vast grassland, we could see that the wheat fields were already well harvested.I was thinking, we were like the simple and hard-working farmers here, leaving no traces of our names on this grassland. All we have left behind were only some sweats and some weighty footprints.
