2009年1月24日，在北美出差的彭定中先生途经伦敦返回香港。以下是他想与我们分享的故事和风景。

原文：
I have not been in London since my last visit about 2 years ago. Remember my first visit here was 1979, the same year I visited Beijing. In the past 30 years, Beijing has made tremendous changes, but not London. As a matter of fact, in the past hundred years London has been trying hard to maintain its tradition. Through the years London has the same telephone booth, the mail box, the same red double decker bus .....

译文：
上一次到访伦敦差不多是两年前的事了。记得我第一次到伦敦是在1979年，也就是我第一次到北京的那一年。30年过去了，如今的北京相比当年已经发生了翻天覆地的变化，但是伦敦却没有什么改变。事实上，在过去的一百多年里，伦敦一直在努力地保留着它的传统。很多年了，他们用着同样的电话亭，同样的信箱，同样的红色双层公交车……

原文：
Of course the queen's royal guards have been wearing the same uniforms.

译文：
当然，女王的皇家护卫队也还在穿着同样的制服。

原文：
And the queen has been using the same logo, seal etc ....
Tradition has a great importance for the British. It has brought stability to London, it serves as the solid foundation of the British culture. It has also been the base of freedom, democracy and fairness. In the past hundred years, British has lost all its colonies, but the English language is still the most used language in the world.

译文：
女王的徽章、印章等等也从来没有改变过……
传统在英国起着至关重要的作用。它给伦敦带来了稳定，是英国文化的稳固基石，也一直作为自由、民主和公正的基础维系着这个国家的长治久安。经过一百多年的风雨沧桑，大英帝国已经失去了所有曾经占有过的殖民地，但直到今天，英语却仍然是世界上最为通用的语言。

Like this statue of Oliver Cromwell standing at Westmister, the Britain will continue to try hard to maintain their traditions.

也正如这威斯敏斯特教堂（又译“西敏寺”）里的克伦威尔雕像，大不列颠国会继续致力于将他们的传统保留下去。

原文：
However, British government just announced today that the country has formally entered into recession. While the shops are on sales, many people will continue to lose their jobs.

译文：
尽管如此，英国政府今天还是正式宣布了其经济已进入不景气阶段。一方面商店都在大打特价出售，一方面更多的人正在加入失业大军。

原文：
London is like an old lady, getting old, but still as elegant as ever. You will never get tired of London. As Samuel Johnson said it well: When a person gets tired of London, he must have also get tired of life. Because London has everything what life can give you.

译文：
伦敦就像一位老妇人，日渐苍老，却优雅体面依旧。你永远也不会厌倦伦敦。恰如塞缪尔•约翰逊所说：当一个人厌倦伦敦的时候，他一定也厌倦了人生。因为凡是人生中能得到的，在伦敦都已经有了。
